Thanks for those pictures. I never thought to try and open it. I’ve got my front seat out so now is the time to give it a try. Is there any trick to opening?
Any suggestions for freeing up a stuck heater control valve on a 62 Fury? I haven't taken the assembly out of the car but it looks like the control valve is soldered in place? Really hoping just to free it up while installed.... Non A/C car.
my radiator is a 68’ 22” and works fine. I’ve been running a 16’ cap but get some seeping at heater hose and freeze plugs. Been thinking of trying a 13 lb to see the impact on the wet spots - and cooling.
What is the correct radiator cap pressure for a 62 big block without A/C? I have seen some say 16 psi for all and others say 13psi without a/c?
What is the downside to running a 13psi cap?
So far the modified thermostat seems to be doing the trick. Ran the car up to temperature a couple times and it seems to warm up as it should and still has regulation to keep from overheating with no collapsed hoses on cool down. I'll be more convinced after running it around some.
I used 6 -...
So, picked up a nice billet thermostat housing and a 180 t-stat this week and will get it installed shortly. Drilled 6 , 1/8" holes in the t-stat. Won't know how if the holes clear the rim until I get the housing off. We'll see how it all works out I guess..
I was thinking a 180 would be best but curious as to your thinking??
I think I may get one of the Stewart 180 t-stats that come pre drilled. Hopefully it will work as both a thermostat and bypass...
Have an odd ball problem on my street car. Just installed a new aluminum radiator and now my engine will not warm up sufficiently. I am running a CSR electric water pump with no bypass and no T-stat or restrictors in the thermostat housing. Pump runs continuously. My last car had an electric...
Thanks everyone. Pretty much what I was afraid of. I've never blast cleaned anything myself but sort of figured it would not work on the fins. I'll probably try the paint stripper and hose route and see how that works out.
Can an older brass radiator be safely sandblasted to remove old paint? I suspect the tanks probably can, would media blasting be better? Can the cooling fins also be blasted without damaging them? Have an old Blackstone radiator I need to strip and repaint.
