    In a nut shell, yes.

It is often important to collector even if it is NOT on a personal level to them because they know that someday when they sell it it may be important to others.

There are many people in the hobby that really don't care if a car has matching numbers. However you can bet that if they have done any research about it they will use it against a seller on the price of a car (that they really could care less about the numbers) that they are trying to buy.

The value difference can be figured in a percentage and of course the higher the value of the car the more it can effect the price.

I would add more desirable as well. The value of a slant six Belvedere, numbers matching vs. non matching will vary little, say 5% even though it may be rare. Now a 440 powered GTX, even though more common, can see a spread of 20% or more.

Yep, they are only original once.

The car that has the drivetrain it was married to 40+ years ago will always hold more value.

I agree and disagree with this statement. If the car started life with a desirable drivetrain, ie Max Wedge, Hemi, 440, 383, 273hp, 340 or 360 and had a 727 or 4spd then matching numbers increases the value of the car. But if the car started as a 361, 400, 318, 273 2bbl or a /6 and was mated to a 904 or 3 spd most people could care less if the car is numbers matching and if the driveline is missing all together than it is anything goes.

True, but then you are also looking more at a "Resto-mod" than a numbers matching car. For the purists, #'s matching = $$$$

I don't know of any purist that care about /6, 273, 318 cars and they certainly don't buy these types of cars or if they did would not pay any big dollars either way.
