you have to pull out the axles to change out the backing plates
so you might need axle gaskets and to reset the axle end play with a dial indicator
after that it is simple as you say.
I'm dealing with this as well and im not sure its so simple. I have a 9.25 rear end with 11" backing plates but no brake parts. I don't want to tear into the axle so I bought new drums, shose, the plates that space the shose, parking brake actuators. I had bought a set of 10" parts where I think the cylinders are the same. But it's a lot of parts. If you are you going to bother with tearing into your axle for backing plates, my vote would be to go to discs.
