AAA on Top Teir Gas

It's a BS govt. ran bureaucracy oversight org....
I wouldn't ever expect it to run as it should,
let alone actually do their job...LOL God forbid...
The new norm, new status quo, "that's god enough mentality",
you can't fire any of them, or their incompetent Libiots leaders,
or management either...
Hell more likely, they'll probably give everyone a trophy or raise,
like we all now have, in any Govt. ran "anything" today...

I never put much stock in that "top tier" stuff. I'm still not 100% convinced, but then I'm a pretty big skeptic.

Well gentlemen (& ladies), there are indeed 3 tiers of gasoline. Top tier fuels (BP, Shell & a couple more) have much higher levels of "carburetor/injector cleaner" additives in it. 3rd tier gasoline has the minimum allowed by law (el cheepo no-name gas). 2nd tier is well....in between the other tiers. Premium tends to have more detergent than regular. It's all true. If you run cheap gas, you have to do more maintenance to clean your fuel system & combustion chambers. Tier 1 gas does that for you automatically. The "base stock" may all come from the same refinery, but the additive packages (amount of detergent) is different. Most refineries blend gasoline for Tier 1, 2 & 3....just different recipes.

AAA is stating that the cheap gasolines are damaging to the engine and also not allowing the vehicle to pass emissions. The "spark knock" sensor, of course, adjusts to compensate and the owner doesn't notice any problems. Now isn't the lower standard fuels too low, or maybe below the EPA standards? How soon before they are selling, next to kerosene, type fuels, just to make a buck? I thought the whole idea was to clean up the air and increase fuel efficiency?

So is it a conspiracy that the t3 causes more deposits, which result in poor milage, which results in more consumption???? Paying for t1 gas equals better mileage at higher cost but results in less consumption??? I hope no one heard that...

I heard it! Lol

I don't think any one manufacturer has that type of outlook, as much as the less you have to refine the oil, the more profit you make. Not having to add the additives, you would make more profit too. What are the guidelines that they have to go by?

What ever the special interst lobbyist pay Washington for of course...
:elmer:

That's why I Try and only run shell, there is a difference. Even GM has a bulletin about this due to their vehicles having carbon deposit buildup issues on the valves and causing misfires. You ever look at the valves on a motor only running premium fuel vs cheap fuel? I have .....

Aren't Union 76 & Chevron supposed to be cleaner fuels too? I knew that Shell was preferable.

My dad was a cab driver in San Diego at the end of WW2 as a kid. He had gone to Mexico to buy booze for cheap. On the way back he ran out of gas and poured a bunch in the tank. He got home on it and said it ran pretty well. I think it was the model t that he had. He told us he was always adjusting the brakes (mechanical) and the car frequently blew head gaskets. He carried a stack of them and would pull over and swap them out whenever they went. My dad was a Dodge guy but he always had a sweet spot for old Fords. He told us the new ones were junk and just kept getting worse. My point being if the octane rating is high enough anything will run but not all fuels are created equal.

That's pretty interesting...I thought Valero would be a low tier... They are usually the cheapest in these parts... But the independents are few and far between in this area any more...Valero, chevron, exxon, shell & Texaco have most of our market now, a few citgos here and there...
