I can't afford that ****, but was wondering if anybody else has a real class car? Pics please. I envy those who can really class-race.

Are you looking at getting into class racing

Classracer.com

My Uncle did back in the 80s and I would travel with then ask over the country to trace

In his early years

In his later years

And he alwsys raced Hemis . . .

Last year was the year that he got rid of the alcohol funny car - he crewed it, did not drive it .

Too expensive for my blood anymore...

I did some back in my earlier years, got my comp. license org. in 1978
ran mostly comp. eliminator classes, 23 t A & B Altered
extremely strict rules, weight/per ci rules,
various classes/various different engines & inductions or fuels,
cutthroat, high dollar heads/camshafts/valve-train, 0.5 Full tree,
on shoestring budgets, don't mix...

Got licensed in Top Alcohol FC & Dragster,
never really raced competitively or for points...

Super Eliminator S/E 7.90 what Top-Dragster evolved from,
Super Comp S/C 8.90 & Super Gas S/G 9.90, 0.4 Pro-tree
Never won a Wally

-----------------------------------------------------------------

IMO S/ST S/G S/C now way too many electronics, delay boxes,
throttle stops, 2-3 step controllers, too much looking over the shoulder
& dumping/on the brakes stuff, running a car that'd run a full second faster
& slowing it down, killing/chocking it after 60ft &/or open her back up
just to run a certain #'s consistently
pretty much "electronics remote control" class bracket racing,
let go of a button the electronics &/or air shifter do the rest,
point & drive, yawn...
IMO too much taking the drivers out of the car,
took all the fun out of driving, just not my deal...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Did some Pro-Gas 8.50 index heads up 0.4 pro-tree for a time too,
not really a sanctioned NHRA deal more of a local deals
Top Sportsman T/S, expensive bracket racing,
pretty much the early stages of what evolved to be Pro-Mod
early door slammers N20 & Blowers various different org.s
{I was involved in a few teams & events with Calif. Outlaw Pro-Stock}
Pro-Mod & T/S, was just still exhibition the NHRA back then...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

NHRA & IHRA National event were fun, traveling was OK,
little to no payouts, some contingency/sticker $$$,
but a total hassle, with very little reward...
IMO now at the costs involved & sponsorship funds,
the smaller independent tracks & events are much more fun...

The days of the independents touring, funding out of your own pocket,
for an armature are long gone, except for local event, there's a select few
that tour the National event circuit, basically Professional racers,
not in professional classes...
You need deep pockets to tour...

Dig the altered, a whole bunch.

I have three former NHRA class racers , (all 426 Hemis, no strokers ), but I race them in N/SS. 2 Cudas and a Dart. NHRA racing is too rich for my billfold.

Super - bee - ski, Don't let it get you down. I buy these with exploded motors and they usually have the manifold and carbs that I can still use. Usually they have busted blocks in the valley area , 2 or 3 pistons that look decent, and usually one head is toast of the matched pair. To afford owning these cars I drive a POS NEON that is dependable. The Hemis are my kids and I will spoil them by buying them anything they need.-----If I can afford it. I am thinking of selling all three of the cars when they turn 50.

I thought there would be more responses here. The top pic is E Town Summers back in the 90s and the bottom pic is a few years ago at Numidia.

I would have to consider it if I go below 10 seconds. I really dont think its worth it. Money, Rules I get it but, I just like to race and have fun.

You can tune your car to play in the 10 oh class or the 10.5.Keep it in the 10's and avoid the extra costs to be legal 10 go 9.80.

I give some credit the folks that go for NHRA legal classes (except brackets which have their own thing) since there is so much stuff to deal with. As a long time bracket racer, even keeping up with the safety changes was difficult (mostly very good thinking). The persistence of the "Legal" guys is pretty impressive.
