So that was a bored out ???
Maybe a destroked _______?
Comp Eliminator & the old Super Eliminator 7.90 index
It was based a Cheby 283-327 block {it was a Donovan 321 Block}
it was a 4" bore & a {283 style} 3" stroke crank with a hemi front snout
old school 13:1, alum rod, steel crank, full roller 0.750" gross valve lift,
iron Ed Mondello big valve & ported peanut plug heads 10,000 rpm
Trick Powerglide 5500 stall {so it wouldn't wheelie too bad} & a transbrake
{IIRC} Hampton 6:71 3" drive, Vertex Mag, yada yada yada...
1st on gas, latter on alky/methanol, later a BB Mopar & a Milodon Hemi

it was based on "weight per cubic inch class/index racing"
5.5#'s per ci = 1655#'s with driver/no electronic but transbrake

Sounds like a high rev engine. What was the trap rpms?

I added to the post...

It was in the area of 10,000 rpm give or take a couple hundred either way
@ usually about 170-175+ mph {IIRC},
with 32 x 14w & 5.13:1 {or 5.38:1} gears on that combo IIRC

Now your talking! I use to hang out at the other end once in awhile just to get a different perspective. It can be just as fun being there as watching them leave.

Yeah I loved being parked/pitted down by the big end
& hear the blowers whining & engines screaming,
crossing the line or speed traps,
seems like everyone ran them
out the back door/speed traps also back then...
Post the big MPH's

IMO it adds so much to the experiences, for all the senses...

Top Fuels are crazy down there! Get to see what 300 plus looks like

Very cool Budnicks. I've been a Mopar fan since 1969 when my LEO dad, with me and my mom in the car, chased down a speeder in our 69 383 Roadrunner on the interstate.
Having said that, destroked Chebby small blocks with the right hardware have produced some impressive high rpm performance. My dad had a tri-5 Chebby with a 292 V8 and what he called "a three quarter" cam. I'm not certain what that means, but he said the cam was so radical the car "bounced" at idle. The 2x4 bbl Chebby 302 in the Z-28 and a Boss 302 are 2 small blocks I'd really like to experience wringing out, but I'd REALLY like to see what a 340 6bbl is like, and a 412 stroker 6bbl would be quite a romp as well. The rush of opening up the outboard carbs on my 440+6 never gets old.
