Just recently purchased a rebuild kit for my six pack. Cleaned and tuned but I still have a bit of a rough and a high idle. If I don't tune it a little high, she tends to stall. What should my RPM be at during idle?

I'm not a expert but believe it should be around 8-900. I think it really depends on your setup; automatic vs manual. I've got an auto and I had problems with mine at 900. I'm up closer to 1k.

My minimum is just under 1k. Seems better when I get closer to 1100. Then it sounds too high but sounds smoother once in gear. I've got the MP509 cam which creates havoc for idling tho.
Somebody will respond that's way more knowledgeable about this tho.

Stick. Demon 4bl. 750. Enough to sustain idle when ac cycles. Nice lope. Exception at alltitude, bump up 100.

carbs are probably too lean at idle.

stalling is an indicator of a lean condition. richen the idle up and see what happens. ignition timing being too slow and aftermarket cams compound the issue.

I was at 1200 at idle & now can easily stay running at 800 rpm after I tuned the carbs. Hope this helps.

      Gentlemen,
Because of the cam, a Crane equivalent to the Mopar 292 degree 0.509 lift with 1.5 ratio Crane roller rocker arms, and 15 degree BTC static timing, it idles best at 1200 RPM (hot) with the anti-diesel solenoid energized....my car is a 4 speed. Idle is tolerable...only slightly lumpy. Carb idle mixture screws set to provide the smoothest idle at about 13.5 A/F ratio, measured with an exhaust gas analyzer. This is what works for me.

        holy cow! Lol
My idle wanders a bit, but I have it around 875-950 rpm with a 292/509 cam. Standard trans.
