Mike Harris, my sleazy mechanic who ripped me and several others off, and who I've written of a couple of times, finally got to go before the judge this week. He was convicted of Scheming to Defraud, which is a 2nd degree felony.
We were told by the state's attorney that since the guy had never been charged with anything before, he was likely going to get probation. I was told I could make a victim impact statement, and instead of talking about how he had screwed me and others over, I focused on the fact that Harris had two civil judgements against him in the past and had ignored both, how he said there was nothing the law could do to him when I told him I would seek criminal legal action against him, and how he didn't even care that I reported him to the BBB. A guy like that has no respect for the law and doesn't deserve any breaks from it.
I knew the judge wouldn't care much about hearing how some car guys got robbed, but hearing that a guy had ignored the orders of two fellow judges and thought he was above the law would really piss the judge off, and the end result was Harris got five years in state prison and five years probation, which surprised even the state's attorney.
