Tell me about the alternator - Amp output?, internally regulated?

Powermaster Alternator, Part no 8172, 55 amps, Internally Regulated, One wire. Mean't to be used with AR Engineering Motor Plate. It didn't put out enough AMPs for me, but I run alot of electronics in my car (Digital Dial in board, Delay Box, Shifter Box, Shifter, MSD, etc...)
