Friend bought new car. Supposed big cam (solid lifters). no other info available and it's clattering like hell. Whats a best guess at starting cold lash for this monster

Thanks in advance
Jack

between .022"-.024" with iron or alum hot. I try not to go under .010" at the lobe cold. you can multiply .010" times the rocker ratio to get a minimum at the valve. valve lash is about a running clearance at the lobe and lifter. naturally that's next to impossible to set after the engine is together so adjustments are made at the valve.

I would check where they are now before changing anything. Probably go with the smallest gap if it seems to be close to what others here recommend.

Checked it out and it's about 0.020 cold. Very loud, will reset to about 0.016 or so and see how that flys

Be sure to give the exhausts a couple more, since they get more heat, expand more.
