16+ years of construction, yard work, car grime and the always-brutal washing machine..yeah a few worn threads, getting a little thin in the knees but still very usable. Wife bought me a pair recently, they cost over $60 and are so paper thin they feel like they won't last six months....ok I'm done

Funny that you mention this, as of last year, I talked to customer service people at Levis, and told them about the very same thing, lesser quality with a higher price. They told me if I had any issues, that I should send in under warranty since they have a 2 year warranty. I tried to explain that wasn't my point, but rather they should make better product, or lower the price. It was a waste of time as my feedback just fell on deaf ears!

I recently 'inherited' 13 pairs of Levi's from my 'brodder in law' and all I need to do is get them hemmed up some. He's 6'7" and I'm only 5'9" so the wear on the knees is going a bit low on me but I could care less. Never been one to spend money on clothing and he was just going to throw them away but that's the kind of guy he is. Use and chunk it....

Made in China now??

I believe there 501 jean is made in this country. Others are made all over the world in third world countries. In my line of work i wear Carhartt heavy duck coveralls in colder weather and Carhartt carpenter jeans in warmer weather. Id get two seasons out of the carpenter jeans before they had to be used for rags. Now for a fraction of the cost in the summer i buy Costco jeans and just throw them out when the have to many holes in them. I even wear them under my Carhartt's in winter. Whats the difference there all made overseas anyway

Like 'bean' says, $60 would be $4 a yr if the new ones go 16+; somehow I just can't believe the new ones will go that long!

I have some older Levi's that are well over 20 years old

I work in them, not just lounge around...

I was having trouble finding good work denim/jeans
I found some from Duluth Trading Company 14.5 oz. Denim $49
http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/workwear/ballroom-jeans/work-jeans.aspx
they have more room in the balls/cock area too,
you can bend over, squat & kneel without shriveling up the family jewels
I like the relaxed fit myself, I hate tight pants...

They ain't cheap but have 20%-30% even 50% sales
going on from time to time, I signed up for their newsletter,
so I know when I can get these below mentioned Made in USA $84 jeans,
for $50 or less

Before you guys torch me for buying product, the imported jeans are $49
"Imported to the USA", many of their product is/are "Made in the USA"
more $$$, almost 2 times the price &
it's also an American owned co., money stays here, not offshore
& the fit & durability/thickness so far is "bar none",
even better & thicker than my ol' 501's

been buying them for about 10 or so years now, great wear
takes a few washes to even take the stiffness out of them,
kind of like the ol' "REAL" Button up 501 Levis use to be,
seem to be relatively color fast too, retains the color,
I only buy Blue or Black, can't comment on the rest...

the ones I buy & wear "in the winter mainly"
are "Made in the USA" 14.5 oz. Denim, good for fall to spring,
IMO they're too thick/hot for Summer around here anyway
{I'm in shorts also from them}
it also says "some components imported"

"dammit you can't win for losing"...LOL, here's a link if you're interested
http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/mens/workwear/ballroom-jeans/84011.aspx?processor=content
For those that want a bit thinner materials & other styles,
they have other thinner materials too 11.2 oz. weekender,
12 oz. in some fits too & IIRC even some 16 oz. rated Denim too
they have some in a strech-flex also, if that's your sort of thing...

I have had great customer service too, I'd highly recommend them

NO, I don't work for them or get any kind of kickback either...

Wow - have to ask my wife how much she is paying for my jeans at Kohl's! Didn't think they were costing that much...guess I'm out of touch. Doing resto on my car this past year I never thought of knee pads...now I wear them a lot to save my knees but they also save the jeans...$4.98 for Styrofoam pads at home depot and don't know I have them on as they're lightweight. Glad I inadvertently ran into them when there some months back.

I can't remember the last time I even wore jeans. I either wear dress slacks or shorts. I think I have one pair of Levis sitting in the back of the closet collecting dust.

 So true Bart!

The company I worked for supplied FRC coveralls and shirts and jeans. We could also order new ones every 6 months so I ended up with a decent supply. One good thing is you didn't have to turn in the old ones. The wife always complained about them because 'they look crappy' and on and on. Even the new ones drew complaints. Guess I don't have to worry about that anymore.....

no jeans?? looks like we got an aristocrat in our midst. :poke:

got jeans from the sixties and early 70 just need trim some Fn fat from the waist :(

I went to Dickie's 10 years ago. Last a long time, cooler in the summer and easier to clean. Plus you only pay around $20.
I have jeans I use on the ranch, but I usually just get Wranglers. Cows don't know the difference when you're feeding them.

The Levis i have are too tight in the legs, and nuts. They're very uncomfortable. I like Wranglers. But mostly I wear shorts. Florida.

Wranglers from Walmart. After about a year and a half they are destroyed, torn, stained from my work. The only way i could make a pair of jeans last 20 years is to hide them under the bed.

women used to like to take them instead of wearing side zippers:rolleyes:

Carhart has nice stuff too, it's pricey, but it lasts...

I do like a relaxed fit, I hate tight pants,
I'm not average size, I'm 6' 2" 250-ish
36" waist {usually buy 38's to fit my legs} 34-36" inseam depending on cut,
I have actual men's legs & mans ***,
I don't do slim fit or skinny jeans, {I ain't no metrosexual or wanta' be Cowboy}
I ain't some "average" little spindly dude 135-150-180 #'s 5' 6"- 5' 8"- 5" 10",
many brands just don't fit my build...
If I buy my waist size they usually don't fit my legs...

I do have nice clothes too,
but we aren't talking about them thou...

A few certain styles of Levis, Duluth & Carharts in jeans fit

I can't wear Wranglers, or Lees at least none I've ever tried
they will never fit, either way too big in the waste to fit my legs
or way too tight in the legs, for them to fit my waist comfortably...
I've never found a pair of either I liked, that fit comfortably...
I hate the sewing on the pockets too, like chic jeans...LOL
