Cleaned up the rear end and degreased it. Primed it in Epoxy and painted it Semi flat black. I rounded up all of the original brake parts and cleaned them up on an 8" wire wheel. Took the wheel cylinders apart and cleaned them up. Painted the various little springs and all a couple of different colors. Wire wheeled the drums and primed and painted them the same black. All back together now with the wheels and tires on temporarily.

What are your plans for the rear point of attachment ? From what I saw in the plans, the "new" hole will be about 1" lower than the original hole, so your car will be sitting up higher than normal. When I was working on my install, I talked to Chris at US Cartools and we came up with a "new design" that allowed me to relocate the new hole at the same height as the old one. I'll try and find pics in my build and post them here . . .

Been a lot happening the last week or so, lots on my mind..
Yep the car is a great place to get lost in work
forget about all life's issues etc.

I know it either calms me down
or just pisses me off  even worse...

I set the old spring eye holes next to the front relocation brackets and transferred straight over so they are in the stock location. The rear is the same but the kit came with new shackles. I would rather have sliders maybe? I remember seeing those pics of yours before...

I see some cars with the old stock spring pads still on the axle after relocation. Is that a thing? Or what?

Mine was very different at the back . . . here's the doodles of that area . . .

I see. Yah, i'm gonna have to climb up under there and see what's up. At this point I will have to go with the shackles because I basically have no money. That's okay though. Next I have to get those spring pads welded in place.

I'm using shackles too . . . but the frame was too low . . . here's a better look at my modifications . . .

Cut away the bottom so the hole will be in the same spot ( height )

Which needed to be done to give the shackle room to pivot . . .

Hope that makes a little more sense . . .

Chris at CarTools said that he has not got anyone else to want this mod because of all the extra time and work required to make it work out . . .

Here's how I made sure they were the same height . . .

The pipe is going through the original hole - and holds the new fabrication in place while I got it tacked into place . . . Make sense ? ?

Do I remember you saying u did this because the gas tank was in the way? If so, that's a problem I don't have. In fact there's a square hole in my trunk floor 38"x38".

I added the notch in the original frame member because the spare tire well was in the car - and there was no way to put the shackle in. Now I've cut the spare tire well out of the car, so the notch would not have been necessary . . . oh well - it's done and it'll work. Had to cut the spare tire well out to provide room for my exhaust to run out the back of the car . . .

The end result - the hole location did not change so my car will ride at the same height . . .

Right, mine is gone for the same reason. OK then. cool.

I got a little busy I the last few days and got some stuff accomplished. Took the ole wire cup wheel and wire brush wheel to the UCA's and sprayed them. Also the disc brake mounts. Cleaned the old black paint and oxidation off of the headlight buckets. Sanded down the passenger door...again. Did some filler magic on the tail extensions. Next up is tubbing out the drivers side well and hanging the rear shackle mounts so I can roll the rear axle under there and get the *** end back on the ground. Gotta clean up those leaf springs too...

What is that bottom photo ?,
is that the hide away headlights/grill ?

anyway, good to see your making progress

I need to quit procrastinating myself, now I feel guilty :poke:
it's been 100*+ the past week & going to be next week too
according to my temp. gauge out on the front deck
it's 103* right now @3:55pm...
Perfect day, just hot...
My garage has almost dead south exposure,
lots of morning & afternoon sun, until after 7:00 pm this time of year
finally the trees to the right of me start to shade the driveway &
garage door opening...
I have to work out there early or just wait tell early evening
to go out & open the garage & not sweat 10#'s of water,
just standing there...

I'd still rather it be hot, than cold thou...
