Fella's,
1)When I removed the front fenders off of my 69 Bee, I think I recall a strip or line of some kind of soft putty between the outter fender and inner fender.
Does anyone know?

2)Also - Is there any kind of gasket or padding behind the door hinges where they bolt to the body or door?

The body shop will be hanging front fenders and doors soon and want to be sure, I have the correct applications.

Thanks
R

Hey Rusty. Yeah I just finished my 68 Road Runner. There was a type of sealant or putty in that seam you are speaking of . I used 3m stip caulking. Worked well. No gaskets or padding on hinges that I'm aware of.

Mitch is right...Also, be sure you install your splash shields and both gaskets as well, that bolt in behind the front wheel (in front of the door jams).

Upper/lower gaskets as well as others for the fender/inner fender area of your car:

Are the splash shields plastic or metal? I think they are plalstic for some reason.

There was no gasket behind the hinges, but there was dum dum applied in the bolt holes.

This is the kind of intel I'm seeking.. Thanks to everyone on here..
My splash pans are ok... But new ones look soooooo good... Clean mine and paint or order new?

Factory stuff is always better quality and fit then the repop stuff. If yours are decent, clean them up and save a couple hundred bucks in the process. My 2 cents..

X2. Definitely use the originals if you can - much nicer fitting. I wouldn't think yours were rusted or damaged judging by the rest of the car.

+1 on cleaning the old ones up.

I don't know what the original sealant was between the inner and outer on these cars. But when I took mine apart it remined me a lot of a glazing/bedding compound I've used in rubber windshield gasket installs. It seemed like the exact same stuff, so that's what I used. 3M Auto bedding and glazing compound 8509.

Do they spalsh shields remain black or do they get color? I dound my spalsh shields.. I had already sand blasted, primed and painted semi gloss black...
So they need hemi Orange or remain black?

I'm pretty sure they get flat black - that's how I'm doing mine anyway.
