Due to the popularity of a recent post here about the SR-71, and another on WW2 planes, lets try one on modern jets. Anything goes as long as its jet or rocket powered aircraft.
It can be a plane from any Nation.

Here goes......

is there a specific Navy & Air Force distinction ??, like the F-15 & F-14 Tomcat, is there a different class for the Navy version ??

Not that I'm aware of on the F-15 and F-14. F-15 is Air Force and the F-14 Tomcat was used by the Navy and Marine Corps.

The F-4 Phantom was another story. It was used by the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.

I bieve the F-35 is going to also be used by all 3 forces like the Phantom was. Not 100% sure here, so if anyone else out there can confirm this I'd appreciate it.

Hope this answered you question Budnicks.

Is the F-35 the one, that looks kind of like the F-22, but that does the vertical take off, much like the old Marines Harrier Jets ?? {Spelling?}

was the F-4 Phantom, the ones they took the guns off/out in design concept, because they thought it would be obsolete, with all the new missile development ?? or was that the 104 or some other Viet Nam era jet ??.. sorry if I ask some stupid stuff, I'm just curious, I'm like a sponge absorbing the stuff...LOL... thanks again

This is the F-35 Joint strike fighter. It has stealth capability and can take off and land like a Harrier with vertical take off and landings. This one will be used like the old Phantom by the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.

Yes it is. Cost us a lot of good pilots during Vietnam. They learned from that mistake the hard way.

Later on during the Vietnam War they were installing gun pods mounted under the centerline of the fuselage of the Phantom. In the latest versions, I think it was the E version, where they added the gun.

Grumman F9F Panther jet. Korean War Navy and USMC fighter and ground attack plane.

wow that is cool as hell... ask & yea shall recieve

the Grumman F9F kind of looks like a T-33 Trainers, I saw allot of them at Elmendorf AFB, kind of thicker & maybe shorter looking thou...

Experimental Northrop YB-49 bomber from the late 1940's early '50's???

Which eventually led to the B-2 Stealth bomber....

T-33 Trainer. Basically a F-80 Shooting Star and lengthened the fuselage so they could add another seat. This had an unexpected advantage. The T-33 was a little faster by about 10 MPH.

It does bear a resemblance to the Panther jet.....

I still remember the sound that the F-4s made when they came over the base. Kind of a weird howling sound that was unlike any other jet that I ever heard. You didn't even have to look, you just knew it was an F-4.

I was Army, and a plane nut, but I thought the A-10 Warthog was a beautiful plane! I'm also partial to the Douglas A-1 Skyraider as an air support partner. It was before my time in the military, but I would feel good with them above me. A damn-near flying tank. Capable of raining-down a world of **** on the bad guys, great time-in-area ability. Not so good if there was a SAM threat, but with its slower speed, and advanced weapons, this thing would put **** on target no problem!

Canada's 1950's Mach 2 interceptor, the CF-105 Avro Arrow. Only five of these flew before the program was cancelled.

Here are a few photos of an A-10Warthog. When I was in the Army I had one of these fly so low over our tank that it clipped off the top of our radio antennae with its wing! Those Hog pilots are definitely hot shots for sure. The way they maneuvered the plane around at such low levels was amazing to say the least. By the time you saw them, it would have been too late if you were in an enemy tank. And that 30 MM Gatling gun sounded like a chain saw running when it was firing.
The stream of tracers coming out of that plane looked like someone squirting a big fire hose that had bright red water coming out of it.

The plane also had a very distinct sound to it just like the Phantom and the old Huey helicopter. Just like mentioned above in an earlier post, you could tell what it was just by the sound of the engine. If you ever heard one you know exactly what I'm talking about....

the McDonnell Douglas F15 Eagle and Grumman F14 Tomcat are different planes, if there are variants they normally call them F15D, E, etc. There was an F15N Sea Eagle proposal. Larger carrier fighters usually have folding or swept wings and have to have heavy landing gear, and tail hook

There ya go Budnicks!!! Tall hair got the correct answer for you, and I learned something new. I never knew they built a Naval version of the F-15.

Cool stuff!!! Thanks and keep em coming!!!!
