The hating type comments against the alleged purists who as a rule don't piss on anyone's ride on this forum are really getting old. To me it's reverse discrimination and a put down when the "purists" are not doing any bitching about anyone's choices, rides or what someone decides to do to with their own car.

The closest I recall seeing any comments on personal preference is regarding wheel selection and that's only when opinions are solicited. I also I recall one go-wing post where comments were solicited. Other than that people do what they want and that's OK with everyone here, unless someone asks questions about originality or option codes and then all the "drive it like you stole it" and "it's your car do what YOU want" comments flow like water off a ducks back. And that is usually in threads where people are seeking advice on what is correct and that IS what THEY want in those cases.

I only used the term "hating" because its almost always in the same sentence as "purists".

Off my soap box. Carry on

sorry tallhair, But I'm one of those guys who uses the word "purist" allot {someone who won't veer from the OEM original parts & only will never ever modify, just use replace original OEM parts} & it's no ill will intended usually, but sometime some overly **** people have to say something about, "if it ain't what it came with the car from Ma-Mopar" type thing, when someone chooses to build their own interpretation of a clone or tribute usually, is when you see those type comments, then I will use that word "purist" possibly as it's meant, to respond to them type comments, when I usually use that phrase... But to me there is all types of builds, all types of builders &/or all type of personalities &/or opinions... I say to each their own, some people are way too sensitive too, the PC BS crap hammered into everyone today... It kind of always has been that way, especially with the Mopar crowd, seems kind of thin skinned sometimes & a little overly **** retentive...LOL... Like I always say "Build it how you want it, drive it like you stole it & damn the rest, who cares what someone else says or thinks".... I like all types of build & respect the effort either way, it's allot of work, if someone wants to build their own car... I like a certain style, I'm a day 2 type guy myself... I'm messing with ya tallhair... It's not a bad thing to call someone a "purist", is it ?? usually, no worse than some Purist calling a Mopar Resto-Rod/Pro-Touring or Drag car a hack job, waste of good parts for an OEM restoration...LOL... there's all types

My point was the smart *** comments to people who are not picking apart anyone's project. I don't care one whit what anyone does to any car. Just don't bust someones balls with the snide comments if they like them to look original in overall appearance or someone else want's date coded muffler bearings.

They drive by comments AGAINST the alleged purists, when no "PURIST" has said a damn word in a thread are the point of this thread, not what is right or wrong and nothing is right or wrong.

Actually Budnicks I see it used when no one has said anything along these "purist" lines. If there were any evil purists here they must have left or be either to PO to comment anymore or just think why bother.

Good post, there is a bunch of reverse hate going around lately and I'm tired of it too.
I tried buying a starter relay from a guy recently that he had pictured with a Chrysler box in the small picture.
I asked a couple of questions about whether it was the Gold Cad type color or Silver coating that you can buy at an auto part store. He send me the same 2" by 2" pictures that I still couldn't see anything. Guy still never answered any questions that I asked too.
After a few days and the same pictures he then told me he didn't have time for the #'s types.

I never asked for #'s I just wanted to know the figgin color of the part!!!

Part was still forsale a month later, big surprise!.

I've owned a #'s car that I made completely un#'s (young and dumb)
I've owned color changed race motor cars that looked stock expect for the wheels.
But for the past 20+ years I lean toward correct car's.

I say do what you want but don't hate me for liking correct looking stuff.
Ron

Is the term correct, a bad term then ??, if purist is, maybe correct is offensive to the rest, that our cars aren't correct or incorrect...LOL... sorry I cant resist guys, they are only words, I'm full of piss & vintager today, just being sarcastic...

I think it's used to mean anyone who doesn't build cars they way the person calling someone else a purist builds cars.

Gheezzz!!! Must be a slow snow day or something. Nothing wrong with either side of the isle here either. Just this...It Is All Good!!! OEM, Numbers Matching, Resto/Mod, you name it. Neither one is better than the other because in the end it is the eye of the beholder....cr8crshr/Tuck

That is not the point of the thread cr8crshr. The point is not which is right the point it the repeated casual drive by comments against one side and there is not really a 'side'.

that was kind of my point cr8crshr/Tuck, it's only words if someone is truly offended by them, they are a little overly sensitive or possibly too thin skinned... water off a ducks back so to speak, I've had probably more "100% Factory OEM Correct" "#'s Matching Mopar's" than most people have owned these cars period, probably cut up more too, doesn't mean it's dumb... It was the thing to do at the time, If I only had a time machine... I also really like racecars, resto-mods & pro-touring, mild custom cars, just as much too, just be open minded is the key, I like them all, there's room for them all...

funny RC/DH she's pure as the driven snow...LOL, so is she pro-touring or resto-mod ??

In our neck of the woods "We don't build by committee" If you like it, you do it. If the numbers match, fine. If you cut it up, fine, If your a hack, fine. If your a perfectionist, fine. We all like cars. And yes the "perfectionists" get poked and jabbed as much as the hacks.

This thread / my comments have nothing to do with building by committee or building to they way they were originally built

Again the point is the constant use of the words "haters" in a off hand, drive by, derogatory, slap in the face way toward these alleged "purists" that are so horrible but never show themselves or actually say "you are doing it wrong".

:iamwithstupid: I think "purist" would/could be a comment interpreted as to someone's ability also, it's not necessarily an insult, when used in the proper context... kind of an assbackwards compliment really, like being pure of heart, it's defiantly beats being called a hack or butcher or idiot or dumb etc.... I'm just saying it's a nice insult, if it even is an insult... now "hater" is an insult probably, if that is used in the same context like a Purist hater or a Hack hater.. my $0.02 cents

I think you've got you point across very well... I'm sure there are some snide comments to that extent...

I'm pickin up what you're puttin down, tallhair. Hatin on both sides just annoys the crap out of me too.

Like the Thread as I go up against this all the time at the shop. I have customers who want a #'s factory correct car and others who want to blast it out of the woods !
If you have a RAIR car say a A12 Blue with White top 4 speed then keep it real. BUT if you want to Blow it and tube it it your car !
I am NOT a SHOW car type my self but do like to keep it to the SOMEWHAT Factory look!
BUT I do in my mind up grade it to my taist !!
As Long Hair said DON'T bust a guy for what he finds Cool ! We still have the freadom to choise ( at least I think in these times ?!?!LOL)
Good thread Bro !:hello2:

This is an example of what i'm talking about. BTW no purists were sighted in this thread doing any hating whatsoever

purists are gonna hate but oh well. I temporary installed a XXXXXXXX

I am of the mind set that if you want a numbers matching piece of history, great for you. I won't call you a purist. If I had a car that was unique I may do the same. But in the same context, if you want a modernized version of what was designed long ago, good for you too. I may comment if you cut up and change a very unique / limited edition of a model though, but as for the actual modification, whatever.
Maybe I'm missing all the derogatory comments being referred to, but I have sure seen a lot more on other forums. I kinda think this is one of the most open minded forums I frequent. Most members here seem to me to be quite tolerant and supportive.
Having said all this, I did use the "purist" term in my own build thread once, saying I was not one, when it came to my slant six car. Oops....I guess it really wasn't necessary to use the term there either as I may have offended the poster that I replied to.

i get what your saying tallhair, who's who to judge someone elses car cuz at the end of the day we're all here for the same reason....MOPAR, we're all car guys and thats that so please respect every mans choice of how they want their car. to be honest i like all the people on this forum cuz we all love the same thing.....MOPAR!!!!!:headbang:
