15x10 wheels.

Hi,
I have a '66 charger and wanted to put 15x10 wheels on the rear. But the thing is that the wheel that I want don't come with 5" backspacing. So I was wondering if I can get a 4.5" backspace with .5" spacers.

In my world yes.

But people will tell you that it accelerates wear on wheel bearings caused by the spacers since there's more leverage created when you move the wheel further out (longer torque arm). My belief is that the backspacing on a wheel creates equally long torque arm and therefore the same stress on the axle shaft.

Same result, different route to go. Anyone of different opinion?

Ummm... you're going the wrong way....

If you wish to duplicate a 15 x 10 wheel with 5" back spacing by using a 1/2" spacer, you'll need to start with a wheel that has 5-1/2" back spacing. If you put 1/2" spacers on a wheel with 4-1/2" back spacing, you'll effectively end up with 4" backspacing and the wheels will stick out even further from the car.

Yep, Ron's got it right. Also if you go with 1/2" spacers, you might want to swap your studs for some longer ones.
