Hey everybody,
New to the site. This past fall I bought a 64 4 door polara. It's going to be getting swapped to a 440 and some other things. I have done a lot of reading on what to buy and do's and dont's but one thing I'm still unsure of is headers. I've seen some from tti that are made to fit but kinda pricey for my "budget" build. Anybody done this swap and used some cheaper options? Don't have to be the prettiest just work. Thanks

in my 65,i put a 70 e-body k-member in,now things like oil pan, headers, and brakes(disk) are cheaper.napa has the pads in stock all the time.

headman shorty headers will work BUT more extensive exhaust work to connect. Not the best for performance

Hedman has headers for our cars. Can't remember the number. Been too many years. Check Summit.

Hedman 78030 work perfect and didn't have to ding or dent to install.

Last I checked they were under $200.

Make sure you read the instructions that come with them as they do require the engine to be a couple of inches off the mounts and one goes in from the top and one up from the bottom.

I went with tti no issues. Got the same car , with the 440 its a sleeper. Are you keeping the push button?

Yea I plan on it. I got the 440 for a steal from a family member and mopar guy I know says he has a big block pushbutton laying around so kind of lucked out there.

I was told that installing a the newer style K frame in your 64 makes a lot more headers available to you that will fit. So if you used like a 68 K frame, all the headers that fit the 68 would now fit your 64.

I have a 69 B body K frame in my Plymouth and when I ordered my TTIs they were the same header that would be used on a 69. Perfect fit.

Regarding a 64 Dodge 4-door, I used to have a 64 more door way way back in the day that I did up with a big block with lots of good parts. I called it a sleeper but for some reason my prey were always suspicious. Here's a pic of my more door from about 35 years ago. That car was a lot of fun! image.jpg

I love it. Grew up around mopars my whole life and really wanted a sleeper for my first one. I think the ugly gold really helps. I'll try to put a pic up.

The problem with changing the K frame to a later model besides being a lot of work is you will also need to shorten the driveshaft and modify the rear transmission mount. If you're using the push-button setup cable routing can be a challenge. The super stock guys did this back in the old days to get a little additional weight transfer. Hedman, Doug's and TTI all have headers that fit. The Hedmans are $199. In my opinion it's a lot of work for nothing. Ask me how I know.

Rick is right about the extra work, driveshaft and mount. For your 4 door, leaving it the way it is, probably best. You will likely have to cut the right lower corner of your K frame to give you adequate room for your oil pan but that is easy to do.
The newer style K Frame is effective to get your motor back a couple of inches. It's been noted many times in years gone by that a newer K Frame and SS Springs were the hot ticket for these old Mopars. This pic shows you TTI's and the newer style K Frame in place. Note the space at the pan and the K Frame. The collectors sure are positioned nicely on the TTI's. No problem with crazy pipe angles needed to get around the frame. image.jpg

Forgot to add, if you go Hedmans, you will need a Dakota starter. The old style don't fit.

Unless it's an all out effort, I never saw the need to move back the engine 1 5/8".

You put a 70 e body K in a 65 b body?????

Would just a undersized starter or strictly a dakota? One off a 360 I'm guessing?

Yeah. Any starter for a 90 ' Ram or Dakota from a 318 or 360. There's a plastic piece on the starter terminals. You will need to remove it for a big block. If you can remove the studs in the head at the front and rear of the engine where the headers bolt on, it will make installing the headers much easier. Remember the studs go into a water jacket. Put sealer on the replacement header bolts.

When I had 906 heads on a 440 in my car, I used the studs and the headers slipped on perfectly!
