So I ordered my MP-40 from an outfit called "Mr. Gun Dealer" in Michigan. I called them up to make the payment, and I told them "DO NOT WRITE MR. GUN DEALER, OR MENTION GUN, ANYWHERE ON THE BOX!" The guy I talked to said they ship all the time without a problem, that their name is printed on the boxes, and there wouldn't be a problem. I told him the last firearm I had sent via UPS through their Jacksonville depot that said "gun" on it went missing for three days and didn't miraculously reappear until I threatened to bring the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) and BATFE in on the deal. He kept saying there wouldn't be a problem.

So, no surprise, the gun makes it all the way from Michigan to Jacksonville and then poof! I get the "A status cannot be provided. Please check back later" bullshit. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and the status kept showing a delay due to hurricane Irma preventing deliveries to specific zip codes. Problem is the zip code where my dealer is at is not in one of those zip codes. Thieves might be low lifes, but they aren't stupid, and what better time to steal packages than when there is lots of chaos with deliveries.

So I called JSO and filed a formal complaint against the UPS Jacksonville depot. The detective I talked to said mine was definitely not the first complaint they've gotten about this stuff happening, but they usually can't make a case because UPS settles things. I told him to go ahead and get a criminal complaint going and today I'll be talking to my pal at the States Attorney office who helped me send my least-favorite mechanic to prison and get him onboard. :)

Yup! EZ pickings to make something disappear during bad times like what Texas and Florida or suffering from.

Low Life scumb are everywhere, worse than fungus in your walls. You better bet there is more than one rotten spore at UPS letting things disappear suddenly.

Certainly doesn't help when they advertise "GUN" on the box. It could be super fine micro print, printed in disappearing ink and it is a huge neon sign for these rat bastards! It is better bait than a chocolate bar dangling in front of a hungry fat kid. You know that chit is getting scooped up!

need to call the gun dealer in Michigan, he'll need to report it as stolen too, as well as call the BATFE

"we do it all the time with no problem" famous last words....mail-order firearms shouldn't be marked on the package, just because.....like the old days of mail-order ****!
...all items shipped discreetly...

That seams pretty dumb to advertise that there's a gun in the box especially since a gun is the most likely thing that any thief would like to steal. Hope it works out for you.

I would also immediately dispute the charge with your credit card company.

UPS is terrible. I worked in a National Guard Armory for 13 years as a contractor. The guard is always shipping weapons that have had maintenance performed through the UPS system. One Saturday morning I was working on a case when the phone rang. It was a UPS driver that had a package. I went to the door and signed for the package. It was obvious that the package was a gun case. The case was not secure, no lock, not banded, nothing. I opened the case and there was a brand new M4 Carbine complete with the bolt. I called the duty NCO for that weekend and informed him I had one of their weapons in my possession. He was there in 10 minutes. The UPS driver could of cared less who signed for that weapon as long as he had a signature.

My pal shipped an X-ray machine through UPS. $250 fee with $10K insurance. Status was "arrived in San Francisco" (or whatever their regional depot was). Then it was lost, no status, etc. never to be found. The $10K machine was insured - right? Wrong! UPS Refunded $100 of the $250 shipping/ insurance and said that's was all it was going to pay. My buddy was related to a VP at UPS and after 8 months, they finally opened an internal investigation. Still no extra payment.

Sorry that **** happened, but;
IMO reasonable logic would dictate;
"With all the **** going on in Florida, especially right now"
it's an extremely bad time to order a gun delivered,
or anything for that matter, especially during the obvious
pending chaos, in weeks & probably months to come...

Maybe either party, should or would have postponed that delivery instead ?

I'd certainly be contacting the credit card company 1st thing,
only after UPS & the gun co....

Nefarious stuff going down ? Maybe ?
Some crook at the shipping hub ? Maybe ?
Crooks in Florida praying on unsuspecting public ? Likely or Probably ?
More like lost in route or wrong shipping hub etc.
or it's a very low priority...
UPS is known for messing up occasionally...

That damn proverbial black cloud looming again :BangHead:,
some people seemingly have over their share of such bad luck...

Being an NRA member, advocate for the Second Amendment, and firearm enthusiast, I respect the gun industry. But, "Mr. Gun Dealer" on the box is MORONIC!
They have a right to keep it that way, but that doesn't make it smart.
I wouldn't deal with them.

WWWWOOOOWWWW!!!! That sucks. Oh by the way...I believe you have to have it shipped to a FFL dealer to affect the transfer. That holds true even in FL. The firearms I purchased while I was in FL at Eglin AFB, all required a FFL transfer. Was this the case or was it shipped to you. Can you clear that up Bru because if it in fact was going to an FFL dealer then UPS is in "DEEP KIM-CHI:usflag::usflag::usflag:"...cr8crshr/Tuck

Bru mentioned it was going to a dealer. I assume he meant an FFL.

I've had nothing but good results with UPS for the better part of 15 years but that said, in the last couple of years, they've been up charging me for nearly everything I ship due to packages being underweight. I prepay and drop it off at the local UPS store where their scale is dead nuts on with mine. But that doesn't seem to matter. I even started adding a couple of pounds to my reported weight but even that didn't help. I use the post office now for everything possible. Besides, they are usually cheaper than UPS and even FedX...

Rest assured... Long before that 8 months was up, the item was sold at an auction with UPS keeping the proceeds... they have facilities where they store 'unclaimed' or 'lost/damaged' items and after a certain time they can sell them off...what a scam huh!

Mr. GunDealer should adopt the credit card company method and reasoning when shipping something that definitely attracts scavengers. Below is an email I received.

Dear Patterson,
We wanted to let you know that we mailed you a new credit card yesterday, and it should arrive in 3-5 business days. For security purposes, it will be in a plain, unmarked envelope.

No "credit card enclosed" on the envelope for good reason.

ive had this happen as well. 2 different ups store on 3 different packages, all weighed, paid at the store, gets to the regional hub, they hit me for a few more bucks for it being "underweight"

And seems like filing complaints about it doesn't do a bit of good. Maybe UPS is trying to discourage us small fries from bothering them....

I dont know. I think theyre hurting for money.

Here's the update.

First, I purchased insurance from the dealer that pays for the gun if it doesn't make it. Glad I did.

Second, I talked to my favorite ASA at the State's Attorney's Office and he's interested in investigating. He reminded me that my ****-retentive ability to document stuff was what got my mechanic five years in prison and he said he trusts I'm doing the same now. :) He also told me that the state is attaching enhanced sentencing requirements for "storm-related crimes", and if someone stole the package while it was held up at the depot because of the storm, that would be classified as a storm-related crime. Nice thing about this is I don't have to dick around with the police. All they do is investigate and refer the case to the State's Attorney's Office to determine what to do, so I get to skip that hopefully.

Third, I contacted UPS again last night and got the same continued runaround.

Fourth, I contacted my dealer, yes... they are an FFL dealer and handle a lot of transfers for me, and they're going to let me know when the first UPS person walks through their door. They get shipments but not everyday, so if they get a shipment and my gun is not with it, that's the last piece of evidence I need for the State's Attorney's Office to take over.
