My 66 Charger needs new armrests and the trim color is P4Y Citron Gold. I have been dealing with MCB restorations and their colors (Pro/Fit interiors also) are listed as a build sheet number--420 Citron Green (listed as a 66 color), 630 Gold (listed for 67), and a couple new ones that just showed up: 614 and 617. Does anyone know which would be the correct one for P4Y armrests? This seems to be way more complicated than it should be, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig

Have you seen this site yet? Great source. This is the page that applies to your car:
http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1966ColorAndTrim-01.shtml
Check the photo on the last row, far right.
The primary vinyl for P4Y is the same as my '66 Belvedere. I have original arm rests that are beat up and they are the same color as that vinyl. Did Dodge Charger use a completely different arm rest? I don't know, but somehow doubt it. The color is EXTREMELY CLOSE to exterior paint, Citron Green (probably just variation between paint on steel and color on vinyl). Citron Green exterior paint was used a couple different years with different names, including spice gold. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes, I have seen this site and it is really helpful. My problem lies in the fact that I can't find anyplace that connects the P4Y code to the 420, 630, or any other numbers that the armrest people use (you would think that they would know) unless you have a build sheet, which they seem to think everyone does. Another frustrating thing is MCB tells me to call back at a certain time and when I do--allowing for time zone difference, of course--they aren't there. Started all this last Tues.
The 13" armrests are common to 66-70 Charger and 66-69 C-body. I think 66-67 B-body two-doors are the same, too. After seeing what you wrote, I'm ready to tell them to send the 420 Citron Green and take my chances.
Thanks so much for your help,
Craig

There isn't a build sheet anywhere in my car. I just checked MCB's website. I see what you mean. I'd consider taking a good photo of the vinyl and sending it to them and asking which of their colors matches it best. See what they say. Can't hurt anyway. Do you have the original arm rests?

It can be frustrating finding the right part. I'm not in the market for them right now, but the armrest pad they sell for a '66 Belvedere isn't the same design that came in my car. Mine came with the ones they marked for A bodies. I know a guy who parted out a '67 Belvedere and he had the same arm rest pads I do. Legendary sells a Citron seat cover that doesn't match the color combination of the original Plymouth literature. They sell a gold-on-gold seat cover that doesn't exist in the original Plymouth literature either. The challenge is real.

They are original armrests. I will talk to them today and do your suggestion with the picture.
Thanks,
Craig

Check your carpet, if it's original. IIRC the carpet supplier put the number code on the tag.

Also the 13" arm rest was a 500/Satellite/Charger thing.

66/67 440/Belvedere models had 9" arm rests.

I do believe the carpet is original. Any idea where the tag would be? 66 Chargers have 21 different pieces of carpet in them.

Also maybe check the underside of the seat belts.

IIRC my carpet tag was on the front driver's side of the rear seat floor portion.

Did you find the correct color arm rest pads?

I’m trying to match my Citron carpet with the closest color now.

Never did. MCB never got back to me like they said they would. Also emailed Pro/Fit and never heard from them either. Guess noone wants to sell armrests unless they are black.
On your carpet: the Ivy Gold looks close to the carpet in my car.
Good luck.

If you're still looking for correct color arm rests, paint them. I did and they came out great. Let me know if you need more info. The light was poor in the "after photo" but the center arm rest is the same one in both pictures and was cleaned, but never painted.

What did you paint them with and how were they prepped?

Vinyl and cloth paint—it had a special resin that makes it flex. Any good automotive paint shop should be able to mix it for you. Shot it with a cheap spray gun.

To prep, clean them really good—I used Gojo hand soap and a stiff brush, then wiped them down with alcohol to remove residue and oil from hands. Hung them with wire while I sprayed. It went on surprisingly easy.

Here’s a better photo of the painted arm rest vs. original arm rest. And the paint code we used. Good luck!

Ok, so where is everyone getting their interior "paint"? My '66 Satellite has factory 13" arm rests with 614 gold color. I have new arm rests that need recolored the correct 614 gold. Herbs, Classic Industries, Year One, Legendary Auto are all strike outs.

You need to go somewhere that mixes paint. Visit your local automotive paint supplier. If you don't know where to go, ask a body shop or your local new car dealer service department where they buy paint.
Tell them it's for vinyl arm rests and they should know what to do from there. They probably won't have a 1966 614 gold color code, so you have to work with them to match the color. Hopefully the counter guy is good and he can use a book to find a color that's close. That's what we did. Otherwise, if you have a flat painted surface that is the same color, they can scan that, but they cannot scan vinyl--the texture in the material prevents it from scanning.

An auto body paint store should have vinyl paint, vinyl cleaner and vinyl prep. It's best to use the same manufacturer.

I know I can go to a local auto paint Store and have given it thought, however, like you said, I'd need a smooth piece with the correct color for them to get a sample from, so I'm f***ed there. I also thought it would be nice to just be able to order a can ready to go whenever I needed a refill.

Stocking 4 oz cans of these old Mopar colors of vinyl-cloth paint and selling them online—the paint probably would go bad before they sold one.

Take a sample of your vinyl to the paint shop, use the paint shop’s color match books, find a close match to your original color, & go from there. That’s what I did for Citron Gold.
Or, stick with the black or white arm rests.
