My two son's car choices

Are these the modern day equivalent of the old 1930's Fiat Topolino that was used by so many with blown hemis in the old AA Fuel Altered class of drag racing?

Just a note that despite all being named "500", there are different underlying platforms.

I just turned 42K on my '15 Renegade which shares a platform with one of the 500 variants.

A couple of minor annoyances but no major issues. I understand the automatics aren't faring as well, but I sure see a LOT of them on the road.

I looked a t a 500 of the same platform but did not like it as well, especially the angle of the rear window and driving position.

I have a 24 mile one way commute to work with some stop and go, some rural 50 MPH roads and some 65 MPH six lane, about equal of all three.

I'm averaging 33 MPG.

I also think if they swapped out the rear cargo area for a bed and kept the 4 doors it would sell as a truck. I'd buy it.

He's got a appointment with the dirt track Friday and state capital drag way Saturday. I'll desensitize him. Lol.

It should be noted that he doesn't think that the small car is a awesome car. He just sees the practically of having two cars. A purely transportation car and a "real" car. On the other hand my oldest son thinks his 81 elcamino with 400 horsepower is going to be his daily driver forever.

Fiats or "FLATS" as they were known in the sixties have come and gone twice before this third invasion, and the complaints that I know of were mechanical issues and reliability. Good luck to the owners.

Well when they came out with the super dupper turbo bad *** I took one for a ride!
It was quick (not fast) it's shift points are stupid! I didn't fit in the car very well at all !
Now the car seemed to he built very well it was extremely fun to zip around in it cornered like nothing else and like everything you can modify it to go faster!
I did notice it's boost was very high for a stock car I think it was pushing 18 lbs that worried me ! Overall I just saw no reason to buy said car it wasn't the fastest car nor cheapest. It wasn't the most comfortable car and there was no room for road head !!!!!! It's
Cool as a little toy but that's all it is !
They won't even let it race in the scca it's taller then it is wider ! The reg 500 is good to race !

Funny, headroom is the main reason I bought my Renegade.

Loads and loads of it. I don't even have the seat all the way down, and I could actually go up some.

That probably happens in one out of 50 cars for me maybe less...including trucks!

I'm not in it right now but my wife commented last night on the funny orange splashes on the tachometer. IIRC 7500 RPM redline!

I'll say this again- if you've ever heard a Ferrari, they have a distinctive braaaap sound. The Renegade has that same sound! (it's a multi-air, so you get a different sound if you drive it hard)

It's time for an oil change. $10 a quart and a $20 canister filter, or I can have the dealer do it for $55 and get proof in case of a warranty issue.

I wonder if they will notice the Ferrari badge I put on the engine cover.

I worked for a Chry-Ply-FIAT dealership in 1978. Talk about rough times! We had lots of 128 Spiders and X1/9s in the shop regularly, as well as Volare's. Not the best examples of either company, but the service department was busy and profitable. Thankfully, both Chrysler & FIAT produce far, far better cars today.

BTW, FIAT is always all-caps, as it is an acronym like GMC is. You never see Gmc, do you? Fiat is a government decree. FIAT is the car company.

Just scored a free Fiat.. needs a clutch and eventually an engine..

My daughter just turned 16 and will soon be driving.. Should give me ample time to get it sorted out. I drove the car home and it drove great. But stopped at a red light and the throw out bearing made a loud scrrreeeeeeeecccchhh and pow lost clutch and the car lurched forwards. I let out on the clutch and pushed it back in and started the car and took off. Pretty sure its going to need an engine soon as its having the low oil pressure light on and some light knocking. Im debating on wither to buy an engine and new clutch or just do the clutch and pray that the engine holds together.. Its a 2012 and really clean on the inside.

I would do the engine and a new clutch. No sense in possibly having it stranding your daughter. I might change the axles/CV joint assemblies at the same time too.

Also, I would sign her up for a "day event" for teens. For example:
https://atlantamotorsportspark.com/teen-driving/

Good luck!

Put your kids In something bigger...
This isn't italy... most of drive tanks...that little thing wouldn't do well in a fender bender.
I would hate to see what that would look like if I bumped it with my diesel mega cab!
My wife's two youngest have wrecked 2 cars..07.nitro r/t did well...2016 Ford escape was pathetic crushed the hole front...and that is a bus compared to a fiat!

Fix It Again Tony

at least it's in the MoPar family :poke:

I can't fit very well in them either, no good leg or torso/head room
& I'm not obese

Personally; for my kids
I'd (did) put them in a bigger cars/trucks,
even for nothing less than peace of mind

mine (oldest girl niece) liked Jeeps
& my youngest (girl) American Muscle, a VW Bug/Dune buggy
or drive my Baja Bug or she wanted a Jetta (she got later)
or she wanted my Dodge 66 W-200 truck, she loved to drive it
& one (my son) liked/wanted a new Turbo Mitsubishi Eclipse
(I didn't want to buy a FWD, but reluctantly agreed, when he went into the Navy)
& a couple others (twin girls) liked 4x4 Toyota trucks
or 1 of my late 70's or 90's Power Wagons or Trail Duster,
they weren't gonna' get
but they drove quite a bit
or (oldest my nephew) liked vintage American Muscle or British sports cars

they all earned them
& I busted my ***, to make sure to get them too

It's strange my nephew the oldest, took after me
just like my youngest girl did, they're a motion junky, just like me
