Firewood...

I have two Purple Mountain Ash that my Dad helped me plant years ago. Little buggers got into mine
about six years ago, looked like someone was using the tree for shotgun practice. Read about a chemical
that they inject under the bark called "Tree-age" Systemic Insecticide. Kills the little buggars as soon
as they start to burrow under the bark. Had both trees injected right away at a cost of $150.00/ tree.
The crowns are fine, and as long as I keep having them injected every two years, they should be fine.
The chemical lasts two years, and when all of the ash borers move west with no more "Food", I can stop injecting them.

Emerald Ash Borer..... They lay eggs in the spring and then leave by Mem Day.... the larva eat the tasty soft insides of the bark, and the tree can no longer feed itself. You never used to see those adult bugs, now I see 3-4 year flying around. You cant miss them, they are super bright green (Rallye Green IMO, lol). Every tree near me is dead, if its near water, like creeks, rivers and ponds.

The Emerald Ash Boring Beetle is so prevalent here in New England that there is a ban on firewood coming in to and out of surrounding states. I have several Ash on my property, all of which are dead or dying and just waiting for a good wind storm to blow them over...

The problem now is that so many people have these infested trees, and they don't cut them down
so the little bastards hang around longer. As long as they have food, they'll stay. All of the trees in the
forest preserves don't help either. As soon as the "Pressure" goes down, we can cut down or stop
injecting our healthy trees. They originally came here in wood skids and packing material from Asia
where they don't kiln dry their wood. They got shipped here, and without any predators, multiplied like
crazy.

Keep the firewood local!
Moving firewood from east to west is how the EAB has spread so rapidly.
Wthe counties to the north and south of me have it.
Ive treared a few ash trees but will cut the rest down if need be.

I’ve lost all my ash trees here in northern Ohio.
Probably lost 30 nice mature trees over the last 4 years.

I hate when that happens . . .

Does that mean that it's a pain in the Ash ? ? ?

Had the same problem in NJ in the mid 2000's. Sorry to say, but there aren't too many Ash trees left in North Jersey. Sorry about your shitty luck Bro.

Ya it’s all good, worse things have happened. Got firewood for the winter now. Lucky it happened when it did and not when all the kids in the neighborhood are over playing.

How is the new job going? You like the Union gig? I hope that it's working out for you. You deserve a break.

Actually the union gig fell through the day before I was supposed to start, but the following week I interviewed for a site manager position back in the intermodal industry and was hired on the spot. It’s going good man I got a nice salary with an annual 20% bonus, good benefits, and a 6% match on my 401k. Things are going good in my household for the first time in a long time.

******* insurance only wants to give me 300 bucks after deductible which was 1000
Yeah, that's why they issue policies for your review prior to agreeing to them...and the option for lower deductibles. Has your insurance company wronged you in some way? If so, say it. If not, what's your point?

Point is like any other insurance company they’re lowballing the estimate, just like when my car was hit last year and they tried to pay me out $1200 bucks for front bumper cover, 2 front fenders, headlights and fog lights. My body shop sent them a revised estimate for almost 5 grand.

That being said

my fault for sure, like most Americans I didn’t look over my policy and Think ahead. I’m 31 bought this house 4 years ago it’s my first property, went through the process with no guidance learning along the way. valuable lessons I can pass to my sons when they’re older, not just meaningless sarcasm Like some people pass around. Live and learn.

There's a lot of insurance companies out there and a few are definitely head and shoulders above others. May be time to shop around for another one. Amica and USAA are the two consistently best rated ones if you qualify. After those 2 I don't know. One thing is for sure, the guys on this website have seen a little (and a lot) of everything and are a valuable resource to tap into when it comes to big decisions.

'if you qualify' are the key words. NEVER had any damage in my 34 years here and have never even came close to flooding but neither Amica nor USAA want to insure my place because I'm too close to the coast. Asked them both how far away is far enough and got no answer to that. I'm 50 miles inland....which is not far enough I guess. And if you want a low deductible, you're going to pay through the butt for it. Got a hail storm several years ago and one estimator said there's damage but insurance estimator said no damage but roof looks like **** now. Insurance is a huge scam and it's costing me 2400 bucks a year. Pretty sure I'm going to sell this money pit and go rent something.

Just move to the good 'ol midwest.
Once you get use to the winters it aint so bad, and the cost of living is low enough to make it worthwhile.

That's a lot for homeowner's insurance. I don't pay anywhere near that through Amica. You know what they say...location, location, location.

Yup....not so easy to move though. Amica would not insure my home. Been here 34 years and no damage except for some gutters came down during Ike and never filed a claim except for the hail damage. I'm looking for another insurance company but so far they have all been more! Funny thing is that Ike's eye came right over this location......
