Bought a metal detector a couple months ago to treasure hunt on an old farm.

Found this buried (about 6") at the base of an old tree. Maybe part of an old tractor.

It is heavy....cast iron. The scissors in the pictures is standard size.

Any thoughts.

Looks like the chisel point off of a field cultivator.

Or, the single chisel off of a hand pushed garden cultivator. They looked like this and you could change the blade to several different styles depending on the garden need. The chisel blade attached to this cultivator looks like what you found.

Is there a VIN on it?

Could be cultivator like MM said. That would be my guess too.

The real find is the scissors. They look almost brand new!

How much is a good metal detector. I need one to find property markers. Hope you find Gold.

I bought this one on Amazon for $100.00. Had good reviews and I am just a beginner. It's called the Bounty Hunter TK4. I enjoy the hell out of it.
You should have no problem finding your property markers with this one. Many reviewers say they have found theirs.

Replace the rusty part with a rock then you have a game.

Glad to see a fellow metal detectorist here as well. I've been in the hobby for almost 9 years. I hunt the woods at cellar holes.

No idea what your find is but on a farm your gonna find a LOT of iron. I'm over at the below sites under the same name.

Seeing your in TN I'd say join Treasurenet as that site has a TON of experts there as well as Civil War diggers.

Minelab Equnox 800 is the best for the money right now. A $100 Detector is refereed to as a nail finder. You will dig a ton of them. I paid $ 800.00 for my Equnox. A Deus is really good but they run a around $1500.00

I used to work at Fisher as an Electronics Tech, then Engineering Tech. Never got into the hobby, but I do have a modified CZ5 and 1265-X in the closet.

I use the Whites V3i. My hunting buddy has a Deus and man is that thing light. My 1st Detector was a Bounty Hunter 505 and that thing found a ton of coins from Colonial coppers to modern day coins.

I bought one from RadioShack when I was a kid. Living on a farm, I thought it would be neat. Well all I found was pieces of steel and iron, plow shears ect. It had a discriminatory setting on it so all it would pick up on would be precious metals. (Gold, silver, copper, aluminum, lead). Then all I would find was old lead batteries.

You would think I would at least find a coin or two. Then thinking about years ago, if someone dropped a coin, no doubt they would have the whole family out there looking for it.

My older brother had a thing for finding arrow heads all the time. Must have been quite a few in the area all around the farm.

Well my very 1st MD was also from Radio Shack (miss that place). Micronta 4001
