Has anyone tried the new Edelbrock AV2 carburator, it promises better response and fuel savings or is it just alot of nonsense?

I was going to get one but they don't have an 800 AVS2, only the 650.

I replaced the factory Holley 4160 with a Edelbrock AVS2 carb and I love it. I haven't driven it enough to know if the mpg has improved.

Let me re-phrase the question, Edelbrock has come up with a new mouse trap, the primary annular booster, replaces the age old regular fuel dump, the new carburator is called the AV2, not AVS, does any one know if this new feature, used for donkey ages in Jet engines, annular can discharge, is really as good as they claim or is it just propaganda marketing ?

It's called AVS2

Well generally speaking, annular discharge boosters do help with lower-end response. Especially on larger carbs or lower vacuum engines that may give up a tad down low. The common theory is that they don't benefit the WOT and may actually hamper it, very slightly. If they have annular boosters on the primaries only, who knows...maybe an attempt at a 'best of both worlds' setup?

I put one on my 69 300 this year. Love it. No Stumble of idle, very responsive. Don't think I gained any mpg tho..

Very interesting! I have the standard 1812 800cfm Thunder...I would guess the boosters would fit it if/when the 800cfm AVS2 comes out. I'd try it.

I am also waiting on a 800 AVS2 Manual Choke

I have 4 / 5 months to wait , see what happens

Used them 4 times now, 2 500's and 2 650, in each case much better throttle response, no bog of idle anymore.
I changed a 650 performer with a 650 AVS2 on a 383, and a 750 performer with a 650 AVS2 on a 440.
I don't feel a difference in power, maybe there is when you put it on the dyno, i don't know, but in regular traffic, much better.

Thanks bee1971, didnt know about the drawing. I love AVS's & Holley's. Carters seem to be a little more dirt tolerant,Holly's aa little more tunable. Do your due diligence & both are easy to work on.

They talk about it (800 AVS2) in there latest blog like it’s already available on Edelbrocks website

But But But - I don’t see it anywhere

"We followed up this year with a new 800cfm AVS2 that provides optimum performance for high-horsepower applications on both small- and big-block engine applications."

"The Edelbrock AVS2 Series Carburetor is available in 500cfm, 650cfm, and now 800cfm for high-horsepower applications"

Do the existing metering rods work with the new carb? I am running an 1812 (Edelbrock 800 AVS Thunder) on a 440, runs very well, but this is intriguing. I am wondering if my existing tuning (rods, springs) would carry over?

Koala, they probably should work, BUT remember that even 800cfm sounds good when bench-racing; bigger is not always better on the street.

Yes, they do.

I’ve used one on an customers car. It ran perfect. I recommended one to a friend to remove the famous stumble off idle and it fixed his problem as well. Both were 650 AVS2
