With 3 project vehicles and three daily driver's always one or another with a weak/dead battery. We have one Optima in the herd, the rest are conventional wet acid batteries. Thank you.

I bought the Optima charger. It has brought my yellow top back from the dead more than once.

I have tried several brands of trickle chargers.
Battery Tender brand works OK but doesn't work on both lead acid and AGM. I have recently tried a Viking 4 amp trickle charger from Harbor Freight that does both. They are working for me, so well that I now own 6 of them. They have setting for both 6 and 12 volt in standard and AGM. I know Harbor Freight's reputation on tools but I think they have a keeper on this line.

I have done a lot of research on this and for my 2 cents I recommend Rizk Industries. 100% USA made. When I bought mine I had to wait a month due to a huge order the Chinese had made. Even China knows these are the best! Made in Warren Michigan.

I have an older version of the one in post #3 IIRC it's now 10 years old.

fast, slow and tender/maintainer settings.

I've used all three.

also have a Sears 10A unit from the late 1970's

Looks like hell but still works.

Not a maintainer, though.

I agree with the HF Viking charger. I have tried other HF chargers but not as good as the Viking. I have 4 of them and use them on my SRT Challenger, 71 Cuda & 74 Duster. Good part of them shows Battery Voltage.

I use the Deltran Battery Tender Plus 12V 1.25amp charger on my lead acid battery. It also works on AGM (glass mat) batteries. Leno uses CTEK on all his cars and motorcycles.

It depends on the type of battery you have. There are lots of reviews and info on the web and YouTube.

I have used c tech ones on both 6 and 12 volt, and they have always worked perfectly!

At one time I had 14 c tech chargers now I'm down to 6 that are still working. Most lasted about a year. I currently have a couple that are doubtful as they are showing fully charged and the cars battery is dead. At 75-100 bucks each, I don't consider that a good investment.
Someone mentioned a old Sears charger and I have one of those which is still hanging in there. If I had to guess its close to 20 years old.

I’m not sure how long ago that was but all recent models of Battery Tender work on lead acid and AGM-style batteries. I have the 1.25 amp model but they have a 4a one as well.

If they only last a year, did you make a claim on the warranty? I hope mine keeps on working, it's ten years old.

I understand that some folks never drive their cars or store them for long periods without driving them. However, the best way to maintain a car battery is to keep it clean and drive it regularly.

I've had a pretty reliable Sears very similar to the one on post #2 for a while before the ammeter gauge died and I needed to clean out and lube the three position switch for the 2/10/50 settings. Still works with a new meter/shunt installed. Made by Century possibly(??). I also use my Dual Pro boat battery charger for the cars.

You have to decide whether you need a charger for a low battery or a battery type tender that keeps battery charged at a trickle rate. I use my cars not for weeks at a time so keep them on the Viking charger.
