Slowly getting there... broke a bit off in one of the brackets and have yet to get it out.
Damn it I hate when that happens, especially in aluminum.

Last night it was a 1/4-20 tap... can’t win for losing, lol. My hands just don’t work like they used to.
Gotta go 1/2 turns & plenty of cutting fluid & air. Are you using 3 flute or 4? It always seemed that the 4 flutes broke easier.

Yeap, 4 flutes have the least amount of meat, switch to a 2 flute. We use Tap Magic and not their environmentally friendly stuff.

I’ll have to get one ordered. I couldn’t even find a 3 flute 1/4-20 in my collection. Had to order an extractor as well since the smallest one I had in a four flute was 5/16”.
Yes at least 3 or 2 flute. I like 3 cause it helps keeping centered. Also if at all possible drill a through hole to let chips fall out. I like the thinner fluid, seems like the gel stuff just holds the chips. Tap Magic was my go to.

The tap extractor worked great. The tap wasn’t in there very tight. Rails are drilled, intake drilled. One side done.

These headlight doors are a complete PIA to get right. I got one to an acceptable working condition. Tons of hours for so little progress.

Can't wait to get a mill in my garage, it's sitting right across the road just need to come up with a plan for transporting it. It's a Cincinnati Toolmaster.
