Just noticed yesterday that my cars in the insulated not heated pole building interiors are getting mold on them.
What's been best for removal without any side effects?
F-N monsoon season all last year.

Spray lysol into the car. Had the same issue when my cars were in the marine can. Seats covered in mould. Lysol killed it and they wiped down okay.

Distilled white vinegar is great at getting mold out. Mix it up pretty strong like 4 parts vinegar to 1 part water. Spray and let soak then wipe off. Don't use bleach or ammonia based products. Most big box stores will have enzymatic mold and mildew removers, but vinegar is extremely effective.

Even if you're not sensitive to mold I still strongly recommend wearing a mask and eye protection.

Dealing with surface mold on seats and most interior surfaces is pretty straightforward, but carpet can be a much bigger challenge as it can get deep in to the backing, especially if it's damp in the footwells, plus it can be really hard to see if you got it all.

Good luck.

what do you guys use for getting rid of the mouse droppings smell in cars?
one of my cars has a beautiful interior but smells horribly.

Have you tried placing desiccant packs, or trays of it, in the cars to absorb the extra moisture in the air we have up north ? I usually put a few trays down on the floors when I store the cars, and it seems to work well.

Another thought that might help. I have a detached garage that's neither insulated nor heated. I haven't had mold problems yet but in the spring when it moves from cold and dry to damp I would get a lot of condensation on metal parts and they would get some surface rust. What has worked well for me is to just run a small fan to keep the air moving. Last spring I added a small dehumidifier and basically switch it on when it's damp and warm enough that the condenser won't freeze up. It made a huge difference keeping the moisture off the car.

I bought a cheap $40 unit and run it with a hose attached so I don't have to drain the reservoir.

I've been told you need an "ozone generator" to get that smell out. I need to do same in my bird from unpleasant guests (man that doesn't sound right... ). Going to see if any local rentals have one for rent.

For mold I washed everything with ammonia in water. Problem is the mold forms EVERYWHERE, not just on the surface, so it will be in the seat jute underpadding, etc.. Wear a mask and blow everything out with compressed air on a nice warm dry day - outdoors. Wash all the surfaces with the ammonia. Start storing your cars in drier environments!

(1) ozone generator as mentioned above by others.
(2) a disinfectant used for flood cars sold at auctions. Check around by Googling.
(3) DampRid to keep down the humidity. It is available in fragrance free too.

If all you want is a "hi capacity moisture absorber", buy a 20 pound bag of rock salt, put it in a plastic bin and put it in the car - at a fraction of the cost of that stuff. Seriously, rock salt is an amazing de-humidifier.

hey how do you think we feel?
beautiful car, runs great, only problem is you need an oxygen mask to drive it....

lol,ty for the helpful answers,
and yes it is the mouse piss and im about ready to gut the car and have it sandblasted industrially.
i dont know how else to decontaminate the car.
kinda relates to the mold problem, because the stuff is everywheres.

Want to THANK @frank w for pointing out this ozone generator!!! Best $90US I've spent to date. My Superbird has stunk so bad from mice that my wife hated riding in it for the past 29 years. I put the unit in the car, set the time for 2 hours and plugged it in. I sat in it again this morning and there is ZERO smell in the car. I still need to pull the heater box and clean it out.. where the buggers lived.. but the smell is GONE!

I heard that spearmint extract will keep mice away. I haven't even seen one here but I did have lots of spiders in the shop every fall. I bought some, mixed it in a spray bottle with water and sprayed it around the shop doors and edges. The spearmint smell disappeared in a day or two but I haven't seen one spider or web all winter!

Do not breathe Amonia . Poisonous Vinegar is the stuff. Should remove the interior items an start cleaning from the floorpan/firewall surfaces first. Jute that has absorbed urine ( ammonia smell) will need to be replaced. This is a health hazard not just smelly.

In my farm semi i use carpet fresh with baking soda. Spread it everywhere and leave it sit several days then vacuum. Re-treat it a few times then hit it with febreeze. Wipe the hard surfaces down with windex. Made my truck much nicer to drive. Now i do the carpet fresh one time each year just to freshen things up. Fuckin mice!!
