Hi,
Can anyone w access to an old General Kinetic Cam book ID this number please?

A5M316F

Thank you,
Rudy

Maybe try contacting Lunati? I believe they bought out General Kinetics.

I'll see if I still have a Kinetics catalog. Is it a BB with 3 bolt? My guess based on my General Kinetic cams would be a BB 3 bolt, flat tappet, with 316* advertised duration ( around 270*[email protected]). Big cam! I'll try to find the book. My Kinetics cams were great, still have the mushroom cam.

Can't find the catalog. If it's a BB, that could be a 1 bolt, My 308* - 585 lift was a 1 bolt.

Thanks guys...I didn't get notification of your posts.

I had tried Lunati....They asked "why would you want to know? We sell new camshafts and that must be 40 years old" They had a point except human nature of curiosity, this motor is really low mileage and has been sitting around. Things look really good inside and I'm curious. They said they had no info...whether they did or didn't.

It is a 3 bolt.

I called my local machine shop....Precision here in Findlay and Charlie put some time to it and let me know it's Big block (Which of course we knew as we took it out), solid lifter w 316 degrees of advertised duration. My builder is going to re-install it and measure it out but of course his time is my money.

Thanks gentleman...

If anyone has the catalog, I'll still appreciate the advertised numbers.
Rudy

It's big, likely about .600 lift. Those old Kinetics cams make power. Be sure to get a good valve spring to work with it.

Thanks for the input.. It has a set of the DC IV heads on it that have been ported. 1970 block w a steel crank w std journals, 6 pack rods and TRW forged pistons .030 over.

Most fun part of the whole deal, someone engraved "Experimental" on the side of the block. It came from Detroit.

It may have been doing legendary things on Woodward back in the day

you can "caliper check
the base circle and lift yourself
let us know
do both in and ex
we ran the mushroom in the AMC trans am for awhile

It will be awhile. It is at my engine builder and he's headed to Fla for weeks...starting tomorrow. Seems like my want for a Fall driver motor is waiting until Spring. Nice cars aren't driven in Ohio Dec thru April. Thank God for snowmobiles! :)

mushroom was great but got banned
We then did dyno work with Engle on both FT and Roller cams
you may have read that we had blocks with 360 on the outside (the legal 306 Trans am motors used 360 blocks)
that could be bored to the same size as a 455 Buick as bore spacing is the same
so we ran a legal 4.250 (+ or minus we started at 4.1875 the 4.25 then 4.315) bore by 2.75 (+or-) to get under the 305 limit
Big valves- what's not to like
we also ran with a 3 3/4 stroke Moldex crank and roller cams which was not exactly legal...
They would not let us weld up the heads drag race style and I doubt they would have held up anyway

My Kinetics mushroom made more power than my 1st roller, Comp 720/274 and equal to the Comp replacement 660/280 roller, & very slightly less than the Lunati 690/284 roller. The old mushroom may find it's way into my 512, which has heads to make use of the design.

not hard for a FT to outperform a roller
Flat flank roller cannot match a FT
Inverse radius flank roller can
what about large buckets like Jag or OHC motors
look at the lift curves and short duration high lift

I used that cam back in 73 in my streetracer I think the lift was around 614 intake &618 ex when I re did the motor in 77 we put a gk a5x314a in it that was the mushroom cam w/634itake 646ex I still have my cam card

Thank you. Maybe it's your engine. As from above...It came from Detroit and appeared to be a very old build.

That 5x314/316 mushroom is the one I used/have. Big power. The GK guys knew what they were doing. I forget where they moved to.

Just to recall, I destroyed my GK mushroom @ 8400 RPM. Called them to replace it, talked to clearly an older guy, told him was at least as good as my rollers, he says "ya, mushroom has high rate of lift, will do that". Sent me another, did what I hoped for. I should try it before spending $ on new technology.
