Getting headaches.

I got half my face ripped off from the end of a Astar landing gear snipe , my Chief Engineer let go of bar when I was directed by him to pull the pin to release the wheel motion to landing skid . Laid up in the hospital for 4 months. Had a headache ever since. That was 1986. Its aweful to live with.
Wow! I can't imagine how bad that must/still sucked. I hope you find peace in doing something enjoyable.
Mike

I get ocular migraines. While not painful at all they are annoying as hell. Squiggly color changing lines in the corner of your eye. Often they come and go within a half hour or so. Makes it hard to drive.. I can explain it better with a picture. Imagine seeing this for a half hour.

Good picture. I don’t have the squiggly lines, just the expanding C until it goes away. They always went to the left as they got bigger until the other day when it started going to the right as it got bigger and went away. Bizarre.

I'm just guessing here but is it fair to say that most people get headaches occasionally?
What is an average number for a relatively healthy guy? 1 a month? 2 maybe ?
Lately I get them after doing something out in the shop where I wear prescription glasses.
I wear contact lenses that allow me to do about 90 % of what I need to do. I sometimes need the extra magnification of glasses to see close up.
Something about the eye strain gives me a type of headache that develops in a strange way.
It ebbs and flows. It comes in a little, then goes away. This either builds to a full headache or fades away completely. I rarely take pills. I'd rather hold off to see if I really need them.
Besides kids or politics, what gives you headaches and what are they like?
You may need to see your primary care doctor and see what he/she says about it. You may be referred out to a specialist. There are several reasons why a person may get one. For me, it's usually when I'm not drinking enough water. And for me, Goody's headache powders usually work pretty good to relieve my headaches.

Just reading this is giving me a headache.:poke:

I never got head aches. I got my first ones when I had chronic Lyme's Disease... It would come on just a pounding behind my eye off and on but would only last for a minute or so but happened off and on through any given time... My wife gets them occasionally but nothing like she did when we first started dating. Feel bad for those who get them as some put them out of commission for a day or so...

Interesting you mention this as I rarely get headaches; but past two days I've had a mild one and my right eye feels swollen though don't think it is. I'm redoing my deck boards removing the old cedar ones and cutting them up on my miter saw set up on my truck tail gate...wind came up and got some saw dust in that eye been bugging me since. Old moldy wood? I sometimes get mild reaction to pollen's this time of year when cutting the grass and having that blow into my face, who knows. Anyway my headache prompted me to take aspirin early this morning that I seldom need to do. Working in a shop years ago and in my garage I might think I've gotten metal fume fever a few times inhaling crap from wire-wheeling, grinding, and polishing metal. Smart thing to to would be wear a mask or set up a fan I never remember to do...

I've found I get them after working under car.
I wear prescription glasses, find the work is either
to close or to far away.
Always trying to focus causes my headaches.

Side effect of one of the Stent/Club Meds caused a headache. Baby that I am, can’t stand pain of any kind. Stopped them all. Doc went nuts. Took me off the one that was causing it.

Buy Stock in Stents and blue ******* tape.

I rarely do get them though. I can't recall ever getting one at work. I drink a lot of water at work and at home on hot days.
I'm on no medication at all. Smells and eye strain seem to be my only consistent triggers.

I used to get migraines, the typical incapacitating kind where any noise or light was unbearable.
The same type of "fire trail" that others have described, always from the right eye, up over the noggin
and down the back of my neck.
It was usually accompanied by nausea as well.
Pretty frequently, at least every week, sometimes in clusters of more...
Imitrex was the only relief and anyone who has taken that stuff can tell you that sometimes, the cure was
worse than the disease - it made me feel like I was having a freaking heart attack sometimes.

I hate to say this, I really do - but the migraines totally stopped when my dad passed on.
I guess all the stress of years of worrying over him as he went through all manner of health issues, cancers,
all that crap was getting to me more than I thought, I dunno.
That's all right, y'all know I got a full pain bucket from all my other maladies anyways, so... :)

Headaches now only come from trying to do any extended reading, which is a heartbreaker.
I LOVE to read, always have. Can't now, even with corrective lenses.
On the other hand, oddly enough my "regular" eyesight (distance) has actually IMPROVED to the point
where I no longer need any corrective lenses for my former astigmatism.
Close up stuff still requires the "old man" glasses or I can't see ****. :)

Even more weird, my eye dominance has changed from left eye to the right now as well since the
migraines have gone away, which makes for challenging target shooting (I'm left-handed).
Some of you may be familiar with Hickok45 on YouTube? He's right-handed, but left eye dominant,
so he actually pulls his head over to use his left eye when aiming.
I've had to learn how to do just the opposite as he. Very weird stuff.

Have you ever had bad welding flash? Does it feel like that? That would indicate eye strain.
I think the worst headache I ever had was from welding flash. Agony, didn’t matter if eyes were open or closed at that point. We get a similar thing from the sunlight reflecting off of the snow here.

I had a really bad headache nearly two weeks ago.

Mind you, I had just walked into heavy beam supporting the floor joists under a house I was working at...in the dark. Beam was about eye level, and as I turned around to walk out from underneath the house...BAMMM!. My buddy working inside (above me) yelled out to me "What the hell was that?" ....I groaned a bit, and told him. He thought I had smashed something with a BFH. :D

Headache kicked in within about 10 minutes. Lump arrived shortly after that.....and has only just subsided a day or so ago.

Self-inflicted sort of.

Ever watch the Lone Ranger? Tonto got a concussion almost every episode. He was better by the end of the show.

I'm sort of lucky I guess, I rarely ever get a headache of any kind

I can say maybe 10 times in my 60 years
that I can remember anyway
not counting a hangover, that really isn't a "real headache" :poke:

IIRC the biggest cause of headaches, is dehydration
I make a point of drinking a lot of water/liquids all day

worst one was out with my golf buddies,
smoking some fat ol' Rothchild Cigars
& drinking a couple of
Redbull's & cheap *** Barton's Vodka, back to back to back
It was a killer, throbbing caffeine induce headache or the tobacco... I'd think

or eating something really cold too fast, Yeah
even when sick I rarely get any types of headaches, ever

(I hope I didn't just jinx myself)

I think some people are way "more prone" to it than others
I know a few women that had them often :poke:

Environment you live in can cause it
or allegedly stress related, maybe ?
sometimes a bad work environment, can induce it I'm sure
being around a bunch of stinky chemicals can too
(or just living in the valley)

I rarely ever get sick for that matter, rarely a headache at all
when I do
I will, 99% of the time, get it from my father,
(I've gotten sick more in the past 13 years, since he started living with me,
than I did the previous 47+ years combined, even than when the kids were young
)
him going to social meetings, like the Elks & SIR's clubs, RV clubs etc.
him being around someone else that was sick

he's a hypochondriac
& I'm sort of a germophobe, it's served me well over my 60 years

I've always washed a lot & I stay away from sick people,
as much as possible

Allergies occasionally give me a stuffy sinus feeling
but not really a headache, it's more just a sinus congestion deal
I rarely ever got that before moving up here, surrounded by
Oak trees & Conifers, pollen galore
