One is in 5 pieces and this one looks like it was on it's way. Looks to me like they are all in coil bind.....

Slacker spring....or Blue binder...probably on welfare, dependant on another to do the heavy work...jeopardizes the welfare of all of the other parts contributing and working in harmony waiting to throw it all out of time and causing catastrophic failure..
Looks like you picked a winner!!!!

Damn, never seen anything like that. Back in the day, broke many valve springs, always one break.

Show'n off yer latest "trick" parts again !...who makes that "Anti-thrust" spring ? ... Zero's out the rocker's side thrust guide wear & friction....good fer 13 free hp I heard !......

Almost looks like it got hot on one side.
But it wasn't blue....yet

Would the engine still run with a broken valve spring?
It did but only on 7 since the spring next to it was gone in 5 pieces and the valve fell into the cylinder and the piston was closing it. Looks like things might be ok though but won't know until the oil gets drained and a mag goes into the oil pan and the oil pump gets pulled and in...pected deslected and di...sected.

You got lucky if it only pocked up the top of the piston. I had a valve lock remove itself from one valve and it destroyed the entire motor (cracked a cylinder, head destroyed).

This crap happened at idle....so maybe the owner got lucky? Not sure yet.

Ya they'll still run, not well though. And you need to change them before the locks come loose & parts start coming apart.
I've changed valve springs in the pits to make the next round numerous times. Always carried the parts & tools to do it, after I figured out the best procedure.

Dang, you suppose that was just defective metallurgy or even a valvetrain geometry thing there?

They were coil binding.....there was another spring that was getting out of shape too and had a crack that was 3/4 the ways through the coil in one spot. Also found all the springs on the driver's side head were longer than the passenger side head and had a different size wire.

That spring has Peyronies...nevermind.

Thanks for the response. Every once in a while the car spits through the carb and someone told me to check my valves and stuff...
