Good afternoon. Hello everyone. I need some help with a few problems with my car. My transmission is leaking from the linkage cable.. My Tech says, there may be excessive play in the transmission shaft. He replaced the O-ring but it did not help. He was wondering if you can sham it or something.?
Also, when I change the oil and filter, Mopar I've done it twice since I had it , I warm it up and put oil in the new filter first .it takes a long time, around 5 minutes to get oil pressure .when starting. First, I pull off the coil wire. Then first spinning over the engine. spinning over the engine off and on four different times. Then I start it with the coil wire on , no oil pressure yet I shut off that again a few times then the oil light goes off and the oil pressure is almost 80 lb. When idling. I have aftermarket gauges in the car. The oil pressure is 35 40 when the car is hot. Help! How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.. Joe.

welcome to FBBO

we need photos of your ride, price of admission :poke:

----------------------------------------------------

transmission wise when you fire it up after sitting for a while
after initial start up, put it in neutral (set the parking brake)
the front pump (trans) will circulate the trans fluid much better, in neutral
you check the fluid levels, idling in neutral too
(if you don't it's possibly over filled, just an educated guess)
possibly the shift selector shaft probably has wear on it
possibly needs a new seal or has the wrong seal possibly
long time sitting will cause it to leak too
seen it happen, maybe the fluid draining back out of the converter
or it's overfilled

-------------------------------------------------------

what oil it is, what weight/viscosity of oil ?

do you have another gauge you can verify the low ?
or hi pressures with ?
the 'idiot lights' generally go/come on, when it's below 10psi

generally/generically speaking
cold oil
especially thicker oils
like straight 40wt-50wt will tend to be
(even a 20-50 etc. in 20*-30*-40* weather, unless it's synthetic)
slower to make pressure, especially in cold weather climates
really meant/intended for a warmer climate

also if it sits for a long time, especially a couple months
it may lose it's prime (well sort of could)
lifters may have bled down somewhat too, drain back into the pan
especially with thicker/cold oil, take longer to quiet down
after initial fire up

----------------------------------------------------------

this is just the welcome wagon
intended as a get to know each other, some background
to post a couple of photos & share a story or 2
It's not really a Q&A tech section
maybe also post your questions in another forum section
get far more viewers & probably opinions too

I removed your name and address from the title. For your internet security, no reason to advertise that information.

Welcome from Missouri!! I love 65 coronet's!!

Welcome from NY.
I think the trans fluid leaking on the cables is pretty common for a 65.
I'm no expert on those but someone here can likely help make some suggestions.
I suggest you post your question in the appropriate forum this one is for meet and greet type stuff.
As far as the oil pressure 5 minutes is a very long time I'm thinking maybe 30 seconds would be normal.
We did have a 66 that took a while maybe a minute.
I don't think cranking with the coil wire is helping you much.
The pressure number don't actually seem too low which is odd.
I think I would be pulling the oil pan and inspecting the pump screen for debris.
Maybe the plastic coating on the timing gears has let loose and accumulated down there.
Maybe a new timing set is in order as well.

Hello everyone, thanks for info.
OIL CHANGE RESPONSE
The first time I changed oil, I don't know what oil was in iI put in 15w 40 Shell Rotella, 3.5 quarts, 1 quart of marvel mystery oil and Reslone zinc additive. Since I didn't know anything about the engine, only owned 4 months, I wanted to change again. Only put oil in with a zinc additive 2nd time
It was a little quicker on getting the oil pressure the second time, but still to long. The new oil was out in the warm weather I think the oil light should go out in no more than 5 seconds after starting up after a oil change. Zazaza.

I forgot to mention the car has 106,000 and was told it was rebuilt. No records Compression is 120 on all 8 within 5 percent.

What about changing the oil pump to a high volume one?

I've fixed a few of those cables to be leak free... The internal bond between the metal end & the vinyl covering fails & fluid leaks through the cable....

The fix is to disconnect the cable at there trans, clean it throughly then use a very high quality heat shrink tubing to bond with the metal end and vinyl portion of the cable.... Buy the product at the link below... and with a heat gun & a little effort your leak should be taken care of...

Sounds like a good plan I will discuss it with my technician

Welcome from Indiana. I don’t think I’d want the oil light on more than a few seconds even after changing the oil and filter. Show us pictures of that 65, I like the early Bs best.

You're right that's why I'm asking people here if they know how to repair
