Getting no respect for so-called "Father's Day".

Communication skills are only getting worse at home. The following example demonstrates how any effort to carry on simple chatter goes awry. Not an actual conversation, but here is a perfect example of how all attempts to be cordial end up.

Him: (with what he thought would be a simple question) "What time is it?"

Her: (with a snide attitude): "I told you yesterday, don't you remember?"

Then he proceeds one more time trying to elicit an answer to the original question. But her resistance increases, and by the time he asks kindly a third time, he is then accused of trying to "manipulate" her. He denies the accusation of manipulation and claims he simply was asking a second and third time because the original question has not been answered yet. The volume of the voices increase until one or both of the parties decide to terminate the conversation completely. He finally sees no option but to give up for the thousandth time trying to carry on a genial conversation.

The following morning, if he is not careful, it's going to be "Groundhog Day" all over again. So he asks someone else: "What time is it?". Without hesitation, without thinking twice, without being judgmental, rude, disrespectful, or argumentative, they tell him: "After 33 years, it's time to move on."

You could also use Cheech's method of telling time by lifting the donkey balls...
