I am looking for a pre 1970 440. I would like to take one to the machine shop and have it built over the winter. He said he would rather build a 70 or older.
I might consider a 65 date coded 383. I would like this to be within 3 hours of north Iowa.
Thanks

All I know is what this guy said. He is one of the most highly recommended builders in the area. It’s not that he won’t build a newer one. He just prefers the older blocks.

I agree with @oldkimmer Nothing wrong with the newer blocks, especially if you're using the right heads.

I don’t question, especially if I don’t know more then the other person doing the work. I don’t doubt you guys either.

If you are paying that person to do the work, YOU have a right to dictate what and how the work is done. Just saying.

I know that is my right. I asked if he would build me an engine, then asked about a 78 440 out of a motorhome. He said he would do it but there was a reason that he preferred the older block.
I know engines well, but I do no have 1/10 the knowledge of building a big block mopar as he does. He comes highly recommended and has earned my trust by taking the time to answer me questions and trust me I ask lots of questions.
So if he says a 70 or older that’s what I want to take him.

Can’t argue with that. Kim
