So I looked at the car in detail. One thing I found funny. The radiator support and trunk lip match the vin. These areas have been painted. The vin tag itself looks like it was it was riveted to another dash. Why would anyone doing a resto rivet a vin tag to a rusty dash with holes? Could it be the radiator support and trunk rail were welded in before it was painted?? I did forget to check the torque boxes. He is sending pictures. Hes down to the mid 20s at this point.

It's a rebody. Pay only clone price.

What makes it a re-body? The dash rivets? I've seen that before on legit cars.. Not everyone is as versed in the intricacies of restoring a Mopar... If the radiator yoke & trunk lip match & if they look un-altered I wouldn't be calling it a re-body just yet...

I would personally inspect the trunk lip... Swapping the top bar of the radiator is pretty easy, doing a undetectable job on the trunk lip is a little harder & the quality of the work thats been done and that you can see doesn't make me think they had the knowledge or the skills to do an un-detectable splicing in of the numbers...

Shouldn’t the rivets be different?

core support can be sectioned anywhere and may be hard to find without removing the paint.......a close examination of the trunk gutter may tell the tale......

but even that being said....... if someone had a hemi car with a damaged core support and a rotted trunk gutter; I wouldn't hold it against them for welding the numbers in

this is why original paint cars are worth so much more; anything else is a used car, buyer beware

Those dash VIN rivets are definitely not factory. Check the trunk gutter like mentioned above....

Yes, it should have Rosette Rivets... The Vin tag has been removed & reinstalled with the wrong rivets... Why? I have no clue but I've seen it done before & I'm sure I'll see it again... The fact the VIN was put back on a rusty dash frame almost makes me think it's the original dash.. Why would you not find a clean dash if your changing it? Dash frame swaps are pretty easy...

You are spot on imo. And this raises a red flag for me that the 2 numbers were transplanted to a more solid shell.

Could be... Or not... Due Diligence, personal inspection looking for any evidence of the body stamping numbers having been altered/transferred.....

I see it as worth taking the time to look, a 25K 69 Charger R/T is rare these days, a 69 Charger R/T with a J in the VIN has always been rare... Put the two together & it's worth putting some effort into validating... Or not....

I think those are rosette rivets, they can appear like normal ones when the paint wears off. Get a better close up of them and if they appear 6 sides they are correct

Don't think so...

I can't say for 100% certainty. But the wrong rivets, the paint job the looks quick. And dirty raise 2 flags for me that things arent necessarily at face value. But if the OP can get the guy to low 20s or high teens I'd go for it. If everything else was solid. But I'd go over it with a fine comb.

Correct K member there, anything left in the engine compartment unique to hemi, wiring harness etc.?

Hemi cars have six torque boxes and a different heavier duty plate above the pinion bumper. Check to see that all of them are present, and have been there since day one.

What’s that abortion going on under the taillights? If that is the quality of work that is under the paint I would run.
