Hi guys was just wondering if anyone used a edelbrock performer rpm manifold on a 440 69 dodge charger if there was any issues with the factory hood clearance I have one left over from my drag car as was thinking of useing it on my street car build

with a standard height air cleaner and a 1" spacer it with NOT fit on my 71.
I had to cut a hole in my hood to make it fit.

I used one on a 69 Charger 440 car. It won't fit with a stock air cleaner assembly. I ended up using a 1.25" drop base, 2 5/16"(I believe) K&N filter, and a K&N open top because I didn't like how restrictive the drop base was with the short element. If I remember correctly, I also was able to get a 1/4" gasket under the carb.

Thanks for the info that helps

Have it on my 68. You have to get a drop base air cleaner and no way your getting a spacer in there either .
Also have to watch the throttle and kickdown linkage as it changes the angle. I had to shave the end of the slotted kick down linkage so that it wouldn't rub on the bottom of the air cleaner.

It's a tight fit , but it will work.

Thanks for the info it is a 4spd car so that should help with Nick down linkage

You can with a short air filter element. I agree, no spacer with a 3" filter.

hey thanks so a 3 inch tall element works I was hoping to go back to stock but don't sound like that will work with that intake I no the the regular performer and the toker are shorter but by a inch of so

I'm not positive you can use a 3" filter. You will have to mock it up to find out.

drop base and a 3" filter will work . But really what you need is an open top filter element if performance is in mind.

I made a custom piece that only uses an top filter element and then funnels down into the opening of the carburetor. No that home right now but will post pics if interested.

Thanks would like to see the pictures and your set up wouLd like to use the rpm manifold I already have it from a race car project I had I also thought of going to the regular performer intake I believe it's a inch shorter but please send pics

So this my set up. I used the drop base, then welded 3" metal strip around and the another piece that slopes down to the opening of the carb.

Plenty of test out there that show the more you can direct the air flow into the carb the better. With this setup all the air is coming straight from the top and funneled down in to the carb . The car works very well so I can at least say it's not hindering anything!

That looks great nice set up so the open top filter works great? What was the filter you used ?how much hold clearance do you think you ended up getting? Thanks for the help

The filter is a spectra piece. There is maybe 1/4 " clearance .

Make sure the center hold down rod is not to high the first time.you close the hood !

If you guys are running with only 1/4" hood to air cleaner clearance, I sure would think hard about using solid motor mounts. Even with new rubber mounts, the motor will probably raise 1/4" on the drivers side when you hammer on it. I run them on all my stuff just in case....

I currently have the Performer RPM in my 69 charger 440 with a standard size air filter(aftermarket). Had it for years and no issue on hood clearance. No bump in the hood!
