Went to a Thanksgiving get together, came home with a cold. The mother of one family was sick as hell, put me in mind of a sick sheep with red watery eyes and a swollen face, the poor gal was miserable as hell. I should've left, but didn't want to offend. I hate colds.

Nothing is a cure, but I increase fluids, take vitamin C and eat fresh oranges. Drink Red Zinger tea with honey and sometimes with a shot of whiskey. My Dad swore by Blackberry Brandy, but I don't like it. I turn the furnace up and try to sleep a lot. Sometimes, but not always, I sit in a very hot bath. I've learned that it can be done too early, so I wait until I see signs that my body is winning and then force that virus killing sweat. Too early and it can come back stronger.

Anything to make it end sooner or easier to live with?

Brandy will make you sweat it out. LOL Zinc supplements help shorten the duration if taken within 24 hours. About all you can do is treat the symptoms and make yourself more comfortable. It's a virus and your body just has to fight it to get over it.

Same thing happened to me. Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not much better today than I was when it started. After three days there was a noticeable improvement and then fourth day it went right back to bad. These are the days when Netflix , prime , and football games come in handy.

As mentioned above, Zinc, Vitamin C, and Echinacea will help out greatly. I also find that taking NyQuil at bedtime also helps with relief...Good luck on getting rid of it also. Not a jab at you, but a Flu Shot would have helped you out greatly if you got one...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

A doctor friend told me that after two weeks, it is no longer viral, but is a bacterial infection. He doesn't wait, and puts his mother on antibiotics immediately.

I've never had a flu shot. It may sound incredible, but it's been at least four years since my last cold, and at least that long for the one before. Not sure why that is. I never get the flu, at least not with the worst of the symptoms they describe. I read on the Internet there's a new flu going around, but I don't think that's what I have because it says you get joint and muscle pain, with fever and chills. They say it's so new that the current flu shot won't do anything. Never had a Covid shot either. In the beginning, they weren't available here and then when they were, they were very limited. I wasn't in a high-risk group, so I left it for people who were. When they became more available., public events were shut down, and it was almost over. I suspect I might've had Covid before everybody else because I was around friends who were around a Chinese exchange student who had gone home to Wuhan for Christmas vacation and came back with it. I've had no test but I had the two worst symptoms,, the ones that are the reason why God gave us two corks.

My prescription, "guaranteed to cure or kill."

1. A tub of water as hot as you can stand it, medium glass of bourbon and coke on the side. Halfway through the bourbon add hot water to tub.
2. When bourbon and coke is finished, climb into bed with electric blanket on high, or under a pile of blankets/quilts.
3. Repeat next morning of necessary. Has never been necessary for me.

"If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough."

For the symptom of a stuffy head or sinus I find sniffing some Tigers Balm helps, either just holding the jar under my nose or rubbing a bit under the nostrils. Similar to vapor rub but seems a bit stronger to me. If I really want to blast my sinuses open, but this is painful and the short pain is preferable to long sinus misery for me YMMV, I eat something with Chinese hot mustard or wasabi.

Same thing happened to me on Thanksgiving week. I was miserable and had driven from Washington state to Virginia. I had gone there to help my son fix his 71 Challenger ( he couldn't find a shop willing to replace the timing chain / cover on that old car). We got it done and by that time I was miserable and had a fever. We shortened our trip home by a week. I knew I had more than a head cold and had the chills the whole way home. I was taking vitamins, drinking orange juice, etc. As we came over the hill to where we live, my wife drove right to urgent care without going to the house first. I said I was doing better. The doctor asked me a few questions and I stated I was sure I had a sinus infection. She checked and sure enough. The prescribed meds have eliminated the infection. Now to just get rid of the cough. I'm still taking vitamins, drinking lots of fluids, and taking zinc.

Just keep going like normal, hot coffee , little whiskey, couple asprin , keep on trucking.
Damn things last for a week no matter what.

I cured my self of whiskey when I was 14. Two buddies and I drank a fifth of what I assume was cheap, cheap whiskey. Towards the end of the bottle, slugs tasted like water. I woke up in a ditch very thirsty. I knew how I got there, but it was a long walk before I got to a trailer park laundromat where I drank a lot of water from the sink. Even something tasty like a Jack Cuba Libre brings back a bit of bad memories.
I did buy a bottle of Baileys and a carton of Half and half to cut it. Going to make it up now. Never heard of cocaine for a cold, but what the hell? I'll. call a friend

I'm that way with rum. I don't like alcohol much at all, but rum makes me nauseous after an experience in my early 20s

Like I said, no jab at you and your Flu Shot choice. It is a personal decision. I have been getting my annual Flu Shot for well over 40 years now, as I had to get one every year while I was in service. So it has become my only vaccine annually, plus some of the other vaccines for my age group, like Shingles, Phunoma, etc., taken in the past. I did get one Covid shot, the J&J offering, but none of the others after extensive research, both here from members and elsewhere, and have not had any more of them since 2020 when first offered. And I did not get Covid at all. Good genetics and lifestyle all play a part in our immune systems, and no amount of so-called Vaccines that are nothing but manufactured cocktails will I get from now on. So rest up, Sam so you can get back to what you normally do here in your topic discussions...cr8crshr/Bill :thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:
