X2 on this! I've run all sorts of "low vacuum" cams (below 10in). A worn out power brake booster was always the culprit if the brakes didn't work properly. There are all sorts of band aids (some very expensive and involved...), but if you have a 50 year old stock booster, it is probably worn...
I agree, but we have them laying around and figured it couldn't hurt! The stock rockers are also ancient. And I'm trying to talk him into a bit more cam and some basic valve work.
Forgive me if I'm asking overly obvious questions! I know big block Chevys... MOPAR is new to me. I'm working on my friend's very stock 440- it has Lunati Voodoo ...703 hydraulic cam and it runs pretty well. It has stock stamp steel rockers, but we have a set of Gold Cranes with the stock...
CURED!! A new cable fixed it. What is so weird to me is that it ran fine hooked to a drill. I pulled the cable from the housing and it didn't wobble or anything. But when I pulled the whole thing out, the cable cover was a bit of a pretzel.
And one more weird thing- the speedo was stable...
One other note- and I should have mentioned this in my OP... the "correct" gear is supposed to be the 33 tooth according to the chart based on tires and gear (28" and 3.55). The speedometer ran very linearly 10 mph fast. Some calculation showed that it needed the 40 tooth to correct for the 10...
Interesting- thanks for the idea! I've had 3 different speedo gears- each one on the lower end of the clock ranges (26, 33, 40... long story). They have all behaved the same way. Maybe clocking will do the trick.
I was just wondering the same thing. You are exactly right- I had the cable straight. I tried to simulate the curve but I couldn't see the damn speedo laying under the car with no one else around. Thank you very much for this thought. I will dig into it more.
Problem solved!!! The Bell has a 4286899 water pump housing. I think this is an early MOPAR aluminum housing that has been superseded buy a couple of different numbers. My buddy had it on a race car (no heat) previously. There is a hole drilled and tapped for the front heater hose nipple...
I'm working on my friend's 1966 and I can't get the speedometer to behave correctly... it bounces all over wildly. I've lubed the cable, cleaned the gears in the speedo, cleaned and re-oiled the wick, and it runs perfectly with a variable speed drill hooked up (and run backwards) at the...
My 66 Belvedere doesn't have a bulb or socket to illuminate the ac controls. I though it might have been a gauge cluster bulb, but from what I can tell there should be a light and socket behind the push button plate. I found the wire that would go to this light, but the socket is gone. Does...
Thanks! I was able to do that to at least keep the cold fresh air from coming in. But on the other side of the fan, I think there is a door that is closed preventing the fan from blowing through the heater core. And I believe whichever actuator does that must also open the heater core bypass...
This Bell had factory AC and it has been largely removed - no evidence of it in the engine compartment at least. It still has the ac box under the dash and I know 2 of the actuators don't work. Has anyone ever manually forced the actuators open (or closed) so it will provide heat? I...
