I know this is an older thread, but I just found the same thing under my dash connected to my turn signal flasher. I thought it looked an awful lot like an original part, but couldn't figure out why it was even there. I removed it, but should I put it back in now?

Sorry, it has taken me this long to get the car back on it's wheels. A lot of work over the winter! Ended up going 15x7 with 3.75" backspace all the way around.
Well, right or wrong, I took a razor blade and cut down the sides of those nipples so they slide through now. They will still hold the gasket in place but are also able to fit through the openings.
Also, do you guys put any ultra gray between the rubber and the pan? I am going to hi tack the cork gaskets up to the block first. Then I will install the pan with the rubber gaskets installed on the pan. Was going to put ultra gray on the 4 corners, but wasn't sure if it was needed between the...
