Found a 73 Road Runner, a few questions.

Hello B body owners. I am an A body guy and a regular over at FABO, but found a project that I have not bought yet, but I can't stop thinking about it.

I recently found this 73 Roadrunner sitting in the weeds next to a hay shed. I stopped and knocked on the door and talked to the owner who bought the car brand new and drove it through high school and then let his kids drive to high school. The car has been parked quite a few years, but does run. He could not give me a price, but told me that if he sold it to me that once restored he would demand to drive the car at least once for old times sake. I said that he could keep it for a couple of days. That's way cool. He wants it to go to a good home because of senimental reasons.

The car is all original, seems solid and everything is there, but there is some cancer in the quarters and starting to get some in the rockers. It has the original running 318 and trans. What do you think I should offer him for this car. I am thinking $800. Am I too low? What do you think this car would be worth restored.

I forgot to get a pic of the front of the car, but the bulge hood is in great shape. One thing that stands out is the color combo of the car. Have any of you seen this color combo before? I know that I need another project like I need a hole in the head, but I am really considering picking it up.

I already told him that I thought it was worth $1,000 tops in the condition it's in (I know that it is worth more than that) his reaction was actually pleasantly suprised. So we will see.
 
I bought mine for 1,000.00 from a junkyard and it was in much worse shape than that one (most of the front clip was rotted like swiss cheese,no grille,no fenders, doors were INSIDE the car and dents all over the body) so to see the same car in running condition with no serious visible problems I'd say go for it

I can't distinguish whether that is either faded yellow or white, but unless it was repainted that is most definitely a rare color combo along with the interior which throws me off a bit and leads me to believe it was repainted.

It is original paint on the car. I have decoded the fender tag and everything checks out. I just think that it is strange with the blue interior, white paint with the red stripe.
 
seen these 13k-^^ nicely restored / org mint condition. At least its a #rs matching RR. Being 73 its also a little harder to find parts as pre 70 is easiest and 71-72 follows next. So be glad its all there and not just a shell :)
 
If he goes for the 800 to 1K, jump on it. That is probably one of the rarest color combos I've seen. The downside is the low-po 318 drivetrain. They're nice driving cars. "73 is the first year for the isolated suspension and they tend to be a bit more of a cushier ride. Make sure the grille and headlight bezels are intact and in reasonable condition, replacements can be a bit pricey.
The upside is the rare color combo, most everything is available except major repair panels. You can fiddle about with the driveline and not really hurt the value. Oh, and it's a fricken MOPAR.

Hey Revhendo nice looking car you have there and I see that FABO is not your only home. I looked the car over very close and the grille and headlight bezels are there and very nice. My only reservation with getting this car is my lack of time to work on it and I know reselling it would break the owners heart, because he wants to see it after it's restored to original. My wife has actually given me the green light to make an offer, but that will make 3 classic mopars in the garage and I can't part with any of them.

I'ld say the one thing you can't part with is that darling wife that gave you the green light on car #3.
I get ya on the one too many projects. Maybe if you can't shelter it, you could broker a deal for someone who would give it the same luvn you would. Be a shame to see that bird go to waste.

Oh, and watch out for 69 Runner. He's got a corner office.
 
Color combo

Allthough my car is a 74, I repainted it the original white. During prep for paint, we found evidence that it at one time had red stripes. The black stripes that were on it when I bought it were not factory and did not have the same contour as factory. I got the replacement stripes from Pheonix.

If it were me it would already be in my garage. :) What's to think about?
Do you have a place to put the car?.....
Do you have the funds to buy the car?...
Do you have the time to restore the car?...
Will the wife approve?.......
If you have answered no to any of the above questions buy the car anyway, or I will :)

Yeah I always try to take the back roads when I go somewhere. This car was way off the beaten path. It was actually hard to see from the dirt road. All that I could see was the back glass and thought it looked like a mopar.
 
If you have the cash & space for it - jump on it! Finding quarters and any other body panels will be a challenge. Only buy it if you plan to follow through on restoring the car - even if it's "someday". Red, White & Blue combo - sounds like someone feeling patriotic when it was ordered!

Keep this in mind - this advice comes from a person with a SICK, SICK, SICK mind, who married a woman with an equally SICK, SICK, SICK mind. My advice to you is to disregard my advice....

hers - '10 Charger R/T AWD

But hey - what's one more car.....
 
73 RR's are not worth much money, the parts are hard to find, and you are not going to find sheetmetal. They're cool cars, nonetheless.

If you can do paint, bodywork, and metalwork I say buy the thing. I wouldn't buy that car because I dont have the skills to fix major rot repair without going the cheap route and welding in patches. I like to fix stuff right, or have someone else do it.

The color combo is cool. If you can fix rot/paint, you will have yourself a niiiice cruiser one day. Or, drop in a mild big block, bucket seats, and a center console and you can be 17 and doing holeshots again in style.
 
73 wasn't too far from the Bicentennial in 76, and I remember EVERYTHING being red white and blue during that period... add to that the AMC Rebel with the red white and blue combo, and you've got someone who was celebrating in style.......
