Here is the deal.I have a 71 satellite wagon I am doing for a friend.Stripping it by hand, some patch work on the qrts,a pillar, cowl and lt apron.Skim coating the whole vehicle to make arrow straight. This vehicle is been beat up at the grocery store It will be primed with polyester primer filler blocked and reprimed and wet sanded then returned to him for paint later. What would you expect to pay or have paid???

There's a difference, It's what you expect, and what we (your friend) want to pay.

I know what I was told by a few body guys for my car. It ranged from $4,500 to $12,000 for body and paint.

Same here everywhere I went was from 4500-12,000 dollar in hok candy red but a good friend did mine for 2300 plus all the parts qtrs, trk floors, inner floors, both fenders, shaved firewall, and trunk but it took him close to a year to finish it he would work on it when he had spare time, I say he really hook me up check out my pics in the gallery, and it still needs to be wet sanded and buffed to perfection.

Bit of a tough call, it's a bit like quoting over the phone on a car you've never seen, if you know what I mean. Things like rust repairs only get bigger (never smaller)once you start poking around, then there's a possibility of surprises once the paint is stripped.

So you are saying he charged you 2300 dollars labor and you paid for the materials correct.that sounds light but fair for cash dollars.

Average out here is 6k to 10k a car, meaning the whole car from our 2 really good body guys, could be a little more even 4 a serious basket case.

Ya'll would shoot me if I said what I paid to have my Challenger done. Wasn't no 12 grand

Depending on who and where the place is I have heard people say they have paid upwards of 20k for body work alone, yuck.

What's your time worth? Figure minimum of 80 hours for what you're talking about, plus material, and will you be expected to go back and fix any hickies that might come up once your friend lays down the paint?

Unfortunately I am going to have some where close to a 100 hours of actual time in this beast.I am figuring $3,000 for labor as he has been paying cash for materials. Its just unfortunate the car is clean as far as rust goes but beat up from end to end.The car has to be arrow straight.

READY???

It needed a trunk pan and maybe a dozen small rust holes fixed. Bottoms of the quarters pulled down, all panels fitted, striped to bare metal and painted top, bottom, inside and out. Total was $4827.00

Oh yeah. Took about 4.5 MONTHS start to finish
