Being a curious sort(in more ways than 1) I wondered if anybody could answer a couple of questions I have. (1) Is the car on Joe Dirt real or parts on a Charger? I still cringe when he tears the wing off! And (2) Does anyone know what happened to a Superbird that was in a hoglot in Beverly IL until the early 90s? It was actually out in the country near there. It was a blue column shift 440 car and it was like the Holy Grail in our area for quite a few years. It was a 1 owner and he parked it in a hoglot after the trans quit. True story! People came from all over the country looking for the car. I worked for a guy that ran a body shop there and he said people about drove him nuts stopping by to ask directions! A friend of mine got pictures of it as close as he could get and it had dents and sat down to the rockers in the mud. Somebody finally got it bought and I wondered what became of it. I never saw it because it wasn't a 68-74 Nova and I wasn't interested enough to go see it! I did see the hemi emblem off a 68-70hemi charger that was crushed in the early 80s locally, meet the owner of a factory 383 Dart that got crushed in the early 80s for lack of a buyer, see a local factory super stock ford 66 or 67 that has less than a 1000 miles(a 1/4 mile at a time), all Holy Grail quests for a young gearhead but I never saw the Superbird. It was gone before I got there. I wonder if Lionsgate needs a script for a new movie. Boy searches for true love, gets off track with the wrong sort of car from the other side of the tracks, spends all his money on it all the while his true love lies rusting away. Years go by as his mental illness rules him only to be awoken by the rumble of a big block Dodge in the distance. Now wide awake he rushes to the distant hoglot to find, "Gasp", she has been claimed by another who could see her Hemi orange was not just a shade of Chevy orange. Despondent he vows to remain loveless for a number of years until another sexy Mopar crosses his path in the shape of a wingless sister to his true love. A beauty in her own right is the sister Charger but silently our hero knows she will never fully fill his heart. For to settle for less would be to love an acup while longing for the dcup that got away.
Seriously, any answers would be appreciated.:Whdatk:

Joe Dirt's car was not a real wing car. The guy who was building it was going to paint it purple and had the engine compartment and (I think) the jams cut in, but then it got used in the movie "as is".

It sold on ebay a year or two ago and didn't bring $20,000

The other car????

I was hoping that one on Joe dirt wasn't real.
Not to steal your thread but what about that superbird on Dazed and confused?

Man, there is a right color for the right car and that black bird has it going on!!!!!!!!!!!! I love them in all colors especially orange but there is only one word for a black Bird, "SINISTER!!!", it helps if you make a snake sound as you say it to get the right effect. I'm glad the Dirtmobile wasn't a real car. People who make movies are usually movie makers not gearheads.(That is a quote ,someone else said it.) My therapist (my wife) has to remind me that movies are NOT real life and I agree. Even though there really are mutants living among us known as Xmen and any Charger as long as it is orange can jump across valleys. (She does not agree to that by the way). Thanks for all who have responded. The sad thing about the story of the blue Superbird is that like a lot of high profile cars , the real story of the car gets lost because it doesn't have a high enough dollar value. I know a old car flipper who said, "Without a story,an old car is just an old car. But the right story is what determines how many zeroes are on the asking price." I personally know of a high profile 57 Chevy fuelie convertible that has an awesome widely accepted story and past that in actuality began its new life after being as a shell of a 6 cylinder 3 speed car. How would you like to own a $100,000 lie! But ask any media ceo how much the truth is worth and how much a good story is worth.

Haha i watched it so many times i noticed every car in it. I wonder where it is now.

It may not be a black car. The movies use something they call "Peel paint" which is sprayed on, then washed and/or peeled off when they're done.

Interesting... Never heard of that I'll have to get me some before i commit another crime :angel1: If that was the case i wonder why they would care what color it was, but that's none of my business lol. I bet it would suck to mask/replace? those decals.

It is tucked away comfy in a nice garage near Austin, Texas. The owner is a friend who has owned it since the 1970s when he bought it out of Missouri.

It is a real 440 Six BBL Superbird with an Automatic transmission, and was restored about ten years ago to the original B5 Blue color that it left the factory with... notice the careful wording...

Tem, you have probably seen the car at shows in Waco or other Texas cities.

I know that :worthless_thread: ... Sooooooooooo

I was told the car started out as a perfectly restored purple car , all the rust and nasty paint & stuff were added for the movie .
