I'm looking to replace my Hurst Pistol Grip handle with a shorter one, preferably with a white Hurst ball. The throw on this one is way too long due to the lenghth of the handle and is very clunky and cumbersome to use. If I grip it and use it at the base of the pistol grip, the throw and reach is pretty good. I'm having a very hard time finding anything other than a pistol grip anywhere online for a console car. Any ideas where to get one?

Thanks! Bob

Have you thought about putting shorter levers on the trans?

Sounds like it needs a rebuild along with some new bushings for the shift levers.

You can shorten the "throw" by moving the rod holes "up". Course you can't move them to far.

Move the holes up on the shifter levers and lower the holes on the transmission levers......do one or the other or both but both might make it harder to shift under normal driving. Years ago I found some levers for the trans that were already shorter and it made a noticeable difference. Just make sure you adjust the stops on the shifter if it has them and if it doesn't have them, I recommend getting a shifter that does....

The shifter is a brand new Hurst Comp Plus and the bushings in the trans seem tight. I hadn't thought of drilling new holes in the levers closer to the pivot...I'll have to check to see if there's room. Thanks Guys!

IIRC, Hurst used to offer a bushing kit to get rid of the plastic/nylon bushings that came with the shifter and were worth the time it took to change them out. With any kind of quick shifting, it wasn't very long before they needed to be changed.....

Ah, good thought. I'll check it out.

Was mulling over this the other day nd a search brought me to this older post... Does anyone sell shorter levers or have those that have done it just made their own?
