Newscast of our club from yesterday

Our club just voted to go this route with our donations in 2011. We gave to established charities this year but starting in 2011 we will look to help local families in distress like this.

Stay away from groups like United Way. They will not allow a personal meeting with a family nor even let you contact them. I guess it's a who gets the credit thing. Some church organizations operate the same way. We got lucky when looking for a family just when the news of the fire hit and contacted the station doing the story. Took a while, but they finally gave in and gave us some contact info once the family found a place to live. It took a good month of calls, emails and several follow up calls and emails. We also made sure from the family, they were ok with us bringing toys. We also got permission to ask the station if they wanted to do a follow up on the family.
Well, the results are what you see. Made my Christmas.

United Way does not want you to see how little of your donations goes to the needy compared to what goes in their own pockets.

MRHWS thats AWESOME! I can see why other charities wouldn't want personal meetings with families but come on, its Xmas. I bet seeing those kid's face was something you wont forget. Glad you and your club was able to help out.
