I was just looking at carsinbarns and I was curious, what kind of places are these that cars are hiding in like this? I know some would not reveal their stashes and where they get their car from, but that's not what I was asking. I mean how far from civilization do you have to go, what part of the country, what cities in which state?

They are closer than you think

I posted a couple of pics on there and people contacted me. I gave them the location of the car and they ended up buying it. We had tried a couple of times and he wouldn't sell. Bad timing I guess.
KID

I guess the whole point of Cars in Barns is that treasure could be hidden away pretty much anywhere. It could be around the corner from you and you might never know. I was in my house for seven years before finding out a neighbor, that I hadn't met, on the next street over had a 68 4 speed 340 Dart GTS hidden in his garage. He had it since new, but had lost interest. I only found out about it when he got it running again to give to his daughter and her husband who now occasionally bring it to car shows.
Meanwhile, three years ago a 1927 Chrysler woody beach wagon was pulled out of a barn in Leesburg, Virginia (you can see a video on Youtube). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdxcE8CCdPU
I've driven down the street where it had been countless times, never knowing it was there and had been sitting there for 60 years.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone posted a photo of my own 68 Charger RT on carsinbarns. It had been sitting outside in my driveway for more than six years before I finally got it over to the body shop for restoration a month ago.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Really that's what you read in MCG sometimes. BTW has anyone gotten the Feb 2011 issue yet, I haven't gotten mine.

I used to find them here all the time here in the small towns and rural Illinois. But it has been really hard to find them the last 12 years.I have found many cars from slant 6 cars to 440+6 cars.

You know as well as I do that Illinois is always changing and that the countryside one year becomes a housing development the next. All the rural is being eaten up, which is sad, because it is one reason I enjoy living here.

I'm back. Yeah it's the same where I'm at. I live 20 minutes outside of Houston. 10 more minutes and you're lost in the middle of the woods or Mayberry. It's real nice out here, but so many people want to "get away" from the city life that they move and then want to bring the "comforts" with them. You suprise yourself and take a trip around the neighborhood and see what you can see.

I live in Los Angeles and can tell you of at least (4) B-Bodies not more than 15 miles from me.
the closest would be a '70 GTX,440 six pac,4 speed super trac pac, EV2.
the guy bought it in '72 and parked it in 1983 for no reason, a friend of mine told me about it in 1988, (he works for a cable company and saw it when he was working on a line) he actually talked to the guy that's how he found out how long he had it. I've been trying to buy it for over 20 years, and the guy won't sell.
the 2nd car is a '70 Super Bee, 383/4 speed,w/console,ramcharger hood, lime green, original owner parked since '85, he will sell it but he's asking way too much.
3rd car is a '68 Charger R/T 440/4 speed, blk on blk owned since 1970. in 1980 the guy had his brother pull the motor to freshen it up, rings/bearings etc. well the brother being a drug addict sold the motor to buy drugs...he said he'd replace it...that was 1980, it's been sitting since.
4th car is a '68 Charger 383 4 barrel/auto. green on green column auto. original owner. the lady is in her 80's and doesn't drive anymore...promised to her grandson who has no interest.
this is just a sample of cars around here in the city, I know of A & E bodies as well but most are not for sale just sitting wasting away, the only good thing is being in Southern California, they're not rusting away.

I found a charger a block from my parents house that I did not know was there for the 8years we lived in the neighborhood. It was under a cover and one day the cover blew off as a friend and I were driving by. We spotted the rear tailights and went to go talk to the owner just to talk. She came out of the house and said it's not for sale for anything less than 12k. We were just there to talk. She talked about how she would race people back in the 60's and early 70's at stoplights. Highspeed runs It's a 383 car. It has never been apart, but was repainted a blue color. White interior, auto and a motgomery warn add on AC system. I haven't seen one of those in years.

I would love to have the car now that I am older and have some money. Maybe I should go back some time and check. You never know what you will find right in your neighborhood.

They are still out there, just not as many :sad:

There is a 67 Coronet RT hemi just down the street under a tarp. Can't see it from the street. Been there for at least 15yrs. I know the guy who cleans the neighbor's pool next door. He told me about it. I arranged to visit the house with the neighbor. The elderly lady reluctantly let me look at it. Its a blue WS23J7... survivor with what appears to be the orig motor, console auto, and dana. She told me they bought it new at Crenshaw Dodge here in LA. Her husband passed away about 6yrs ago. She has an obvious emotional attachment to it, so I didn't press the issue. Yet.

My GTX is sitting in a little shed on a farm in North Dakota. Work of mouth works. Have a beer in a small town bar and hit up the locals for and leads.

There was a 69 fastback mustang around the corner from me sitting in the driveway...for 4 years.

I asked if it was for sale the first year after I moved in, because I had never seen it move.
The owner said no.

3 years later I see the car across the street, and the next day, a for sale sign in the lawn of the previous owner's house.

Then it sat across the street for another year, then was moved around back for two more.

Now it's gone.

I found my 71 torino GT on a cul de sac off a secondary road...with a for sale sign in the window.
Who the f was ever gonna see that sign?

I live about a mile out of downtown in one of the larger cities in Maine. The right next door has and old firebird in his barn. Another friend has an old nova in his barn and he is right in the city. So, I agree they can and will be everywhere.
