Do you know if the 67 recall woodgrain wheel has a one year only switch and retainer or if it's the same switch and retainer as the 64-66 woodgrain wheels or the switch and retainer for the 68-69 woodgrain wheels? I've never had one of the 67 wheels.

Dave

I know 68-70 B-body wont work and 64-66 A-body wont work was told 66-67 B-body will but have not tried myself.

So that means it must be using the 68 and up switch. At a quick glance they look the same, but if you look closer you can see the difference. I have the 68 up switches (NOS) in stock if you need one. I think your biggest challenge is going to be finding the retainer.

thanks will let you know going to look at another gtx this weekend has the recall wheel on it to actually see what it looks like and maybe get part numbers.

new member, forgive the ignorance. Can you put up a pic of the recall wheel. I've never heard of such a thing.

You can use a entire 68/9 set up, but you will have to use the pad also, I have done it. The 67 wheel is basicly the same as the 68/9 with open spokes. Here are some pic's of the one I had.

Here's mine. You can rarely find them on eBay. Whether they call it a recall wheel or not, I like the looks of it. It is going on my '67 GTX.

I thought those wheels were recalled. The rumor I heard was that in an accident the wood grain wheel could break away from the six narrow spokes (at the outer end of each spoke where the metal was narrowest and weakest) leaving six sharp and gleaming chrome spikes aimed at the driver's torso.

Nader had it in for them because if your fingers are in the slots and you hit a pot hole.....

There is no proof they were "recalled", they are just widely known as the recall wheel.

The origional wheel design had horn padels that went were the openings are. I'm sure the cost eliminated it from going into production.

Yes that was one rumor, the other being a finger could fit in the wider part of the spoke and get stuck in the narrow part. They are commonly called recall wheels and I always thought the same. Not untill I got the one I had and after being told and then doing research to find there was never a recall issued. If someone can come up with something stating otherwise I'd sure like to see it. As rare as these wheels are I really don't know how in demand they are. I had mine for sale for a while before trading it for a restored 69 wheel for Dad's car.
