Got me a new 'Doba project car. 77 model...console/bucket seat car with a great running 400. Cold AC and working cruise control. I'm driving this one to work right now. The next thing I want to do is paint it....and of course, it will be green! Any suggestions on specific hue? I'm thinking a dark green metallic with the white vinyl top and white letter tires would look good. Need new wheels too. At this time, I'm not sure if I should paint the car myself or let the shop do it...they want 5 grand which is a little steep for me. What do you all think?

Good looking car! Do you know if it's a (N/E64 400ci 4bbl)or
a(P/E68 400ci 4bbl Police) motor?
If you can paint it, I'd do it yourself if it's going to cost that
much!???

nice wheels. just thinking out loud, why don't you do all the prep and get them to lay the paint on. has to be cheaper.

That is a very good looking car! Yes, keep it green for sure. White top is good but think about a green vinyl top too. Those basic stock wheelcovers are pretty boring. Other than paint... the wheels could be the best visual "bang for the buck". I agree with shag766.... do as much prep as you can and pay a pro to finish the details and shoot the colour.

Haven't seen a Sublime Green Cordoba yet. You could paint the wheels, so you'd have the painted lip/hubcap look, but some mags would give it a better look.

Nice Corinthian leather.

Is it F8 sherwood green?

"Cordoba" rallyes would look good...or tru-spokes!

Shame it was out long enough to have the paint oxidize.

Any pics of Cordoba rallyes?

I like the spoke caps on mine, but I'm thinking now I want to do painted wheel/dog dish.

I'm jealous of the console and manual windows. And that I can never find a pine-tree air freshener that matches my interior nearly as well as yours does. Paint-wise it looks like a scuff-and-shoot deal. Very nice. My opinion is that a lighter green would look cool. Trinity 1945 (paintforcars.com) has a color called "Celery Green" that would look super-cool with the med/dark green interior you have. Chrysler's Road Wheels were available on C-bodies in the late 60s and would look great on your car, assuming you could find a set. Rallyes are more common and easier to find. Even available brand new from Wheel Vintiques and would equally good. Very nice car, great find.

I had my doba painted by my local Maaco for $750. In this picture she is dirty from sitting for 3 month undriven and unwashed, but she shined right up after a little elbow work. That price didnt include a clear coat, but i had them do an extra coat of paint so it can be buffed down for a long time and also doesnt scratch into the primer easily.

Maaco has a somewhat deservedly poor rep. I can only say that you should talk to the manager about your expectations of the finished job and what kind of value it has to you. $5k is pretty high for a car that NADA values extreemly good condition at maybe a little past $5k.

I have something of a business relationship with the shop manager who is also a car enthusiast, so he made sure they did a good job. by Maaco standards it really is tops. The key was they shot the paint on a friday afternoon, and didnt roll the car out of the booth till saturday, so there is none of the standard maaco dirt and sand settled into the paint as it dries.

Now unless he just fed me a line, i think this was the key and will request all my future cars be done in the same fashon.

Dont have Maaco do any filler or metal repair.

Hi Dobastyle,
Looks good! Those look like "real" wire wheels. Are they Kelsey Hayes or something similar?
Those wheels would look really good on almost any Cordoba... including yours d9103365.

I kinda like that light green color, a buddy had one like that back then. Mine was black. This way, you don't have to change the jambs & undersides. I'd probably get a maaco shop to lay the same color on. And I agree, I'd lose the white top, a close green would go well. And yes, some nice wheels, & you got a LOOKER !

My wheels wire wheels are American racing, at least thats what the center caps say. I dont have all 4, i just roll with them on the curb side, for the drive by viewing pleasure.

The wheels in this pic are on my other 79, but they match better with the black one, and the rubber is good.

i need to paint my drums.
