I am seriously thinking of stepping up and spending the money to open my own shop.Basically a shop that caters to the muscle car enthusiast.Metal fab, custom welding, chassis work, headers, turbo setups pipe work, suspension, and finish work including paint.
For a market that is suppose to be so weak,I have been running strong for a couple of years. Now I am out of room and booked for months ahead.
My cliental is from modified stocker to twin turbo, custom in chassis 4link,9second ghetto cruiser.

Well for the name NEW ERA OUTLAWS
I am looking for honest opinions, some critquing, and real world experience thank you.

I think thats a good idea! I'll give you my two cents worth.... Stay small to keep quality control,Never owe anyone favours and ALWAYS PAY YOUR BILLS OFF! also dont give anyone credit.Do the job right the first time and you wont get wasted call backs to fix it right the second time! BE HONEST with your customers.. its easier then trying to cover **** up!
A cash poor business is always bound to fail so make sure your spending on stuff that will make you money and leave the luxuries for a later date.:icon_cheers:

Yha real ethenol!!!! but at least they grow there own, not paid for by our tax dollars.

It won't be long and I'll see them going past the house about 4 or 5 am with the boat on the roof of the buggy heading to the Damn. Then around 5pm I'll see them heading the other way.

Quality, Customer Service and a good website. There are loads of companies making parts for our cars. Some great some crappy. I use the forums that I read to find out what quality parts our on the market then I search for a website. (I have been looking at suspension and brake upgrades lately) I want to see detailed instructions on install, multiple pictures of the parts and prices.

For a custom shop I want to see the weld quality. I want to see the upgrades I am looking for in high quality detailed pictures. If you check out Muscle Car Restorations they post tons of pics of the body work, fab and assembly. If I ever have the cash to have a car restored that is where I will be going. I know they have the skilled employees and are putting out the quality I want to lay my hard earned cash down on. I know there are other companies putting out top notch restorations but Muscle Car Restorations has the pics out there for everyone to see.

My 2 cents.

Well I'm late to this party but I'll toss in some comments anyway.

I've been in the corporate and entrepeneur worlds for 30 plus years. Ran giant businesses, own and run a small one today. Lots of my clients and friends are business owners. Experience leads me to say:

You can never have enough money when you start-up. You can never plan too much or tight enough before you start.

Don't put your house up as collateral. Don't put your retirement money up either. Do everything on a showstring, but don't let the public see it. Just a cold reality: it's tough to be broke and look successful until you actually succeed.

Many have tried, few succeed. Dare to be independent. Most satisfying and rewarding action I ever took.

Stay small - decide early if you want to be a manager or be hands-on. Stay small and you can thrive. Grow too big or too fast and you will only be management, not hands-on. If that's ok then good for you. I see unhappiness for those who thought they could do both, and find that it kills them to become a manager of people and customers, and not have time to think/design/build/complete the project.

Think of NASA: do you want to launch the spacey-ship (manage) or fly it (hands-on)?? Decide early.

And yes, do not extend credit. Not once, to anyone.

Follow the dream! Dan.

I am a hands on guy.I am known by my skills and outlandish mouth.Anything and everything I have and own was put here with the skills of my hands.I am a straight foward guy, some call me an asshole for it.They allways know were they stand with me though. If I like it,I like it.If I don't like it,I don't like it.I have no roblem telling you I don't or do like something.I can't put my skills to something I don't like and won't.Am I the best no,am I great at alot of things yes.Which inturns leaves the customer with a great package in the end.I am working on a couple of cars for advertising, wich I never have advertised.I am fortunate to be able to do the things I really enjoy for a profit of some sort.

As a skilled tradesman you are always chasing perfection. You will challenge yourself day by day, persue the unobtainable, and we will even critique perfection that is above any standard. We try new things on a daily basis and adapt them to our skills to improve. We chase the dream of perfection, wich is never obtainable in our own minds. The drive is our skill, and the skill our life. When the drive is gone so is our life.A skilled tradesman and blue collars for me to the end!!!!!
