I'm back in the Mopar scene again after a 30 year absence, and looking for help. I have a '62 Dodge Phoenix (same a 4 door Dart) here in Australia, and I am stripping it ready for paint. However, I am stuck - can someone advise the easiest way to remove the window crank handles??

Additionally, and instruction on removing the back seat base. Thanks .. Tony

The base is hooked to the floor board. Once you get the top part off you can just push/slide the base backwards. It should just lift out.

Not sure on the window crank. I thought all early b bodies had a bolt in the middle of the handle base. It takes a allen wrench to remove it. If not then there is a clip behind the base. They make a tool to remove them or you can use a screwdriver to push it off of the stem.

If you push on the plastic base just beneath the crank you will see that it is spring loaded and can be pushed away from the crank towards the door panel. What you do is push the plastic in to expose a flat clip in a cut out at the base of the crank handle. Stick a flat screw driver behind the clip and push it forward a bit while pulling the crank and it should slide right off. This is actually a three hand job as you need one hand to push the plastic ring in, another to stick the screw driver into the clip and a third to pull the crank off :)

Thanks Guys - all good info. It was a bit of a mission, but got them off with a bit of grunting and pulling. Probably what was making it harder to move was nearly 50 years of dust, rust, and just crap between the mating surfaces. I was pleased to see how easy the internal doors handles came off - a small cap and a nut ... too easy.

Back seat is out now as well. Isn't getting all that trim off fun ... not !! No seriously, it is just a patience game. Touch wood, nothing bent so far - well apart front that which was already marked, but I have added non further damage.
