What are the advantages/disadvantages when choosing a mounting configuration for a 2X4 tunnel ram setup, is it simply a choice or does carb choice come into play. Mounting flanges are for 4150 style carb's and I plan on keeping the total cfm around 1000 and will likely use a pair of Holley's. It is a Weiand 1987 tunnel on a 440 in a 66 Belvy.
 
Are you meaning the orientation of the float bowls front/back or side/side?
 
Mounting sideways helps with making jet changes. When mounting front to back, you will have to remove one carb to make jet changes etc but front to back makes for an easy and simple linkage setup. Once I had my carbs dialed in, I never touched them for the rest of the season so I kept the front to back setup. Other than that, I don't see any advantage or disadvantage to the way they mount as far as performance goes.
 
I am referring to mounting the carbs either sideways or front to back. Its a bit of a relief to hear that once you had the carbs dialed in they were good for the whole season Cranky. I need to purchase linkage, thus the question.
Cranky, I wasn't originally going to go with a tunnel and now wonder about my camshaft choice. I have the new MP .509 grind, do you mind sharing your motor build spec's? I am not building an all out race engine, but a solid street/strip combo.
 
Tunnel Rams can be run on the street with good success if they are set up right. Mine was a race only car but had decent manners when driving around in the pits. I actually took the long way to my pit area because I liked driving the car so much lol. It was a 440 .030 over, very old school Jahns light weight pistons glued to Hemi rods on a stock stroke 440 crank. Heads were max ported 906's (didn't have heads like we have today) with 2.14/1.88 valves with an all Isky valve train, .660 lift roller with 320 advertised duration, Isky lifters and non roller ductile iron rockers, Weiand TR with 2 750 DP tunnel ram carbs, 4500 stall, 4.88 gears and ladder bars. It would run 10.50 but not consistently. Slowed it down until it became deadly at 10.68. It ran that all season but it would run a 10.69 if I launched at an idle. This was in a 68 Road Runner at 3200 lbs without me. I was about 180 back then...1984-85. I would think you could make it run well with the 509 but I've seen the 509 work very well in the low decks while the old 484 do very well in the RB's....
 
If anything I would say it would have to do with fuel distribution.

need to add more infoya know the "Comp Cams hyd. .525 lift 305* duration" is a very nice street cam,..
degree that sucker in @ 103* to 105*...gives it a bit more low end umph...i built my uncles 1967 -- 318 using that cam,.360 heads (587 casting)--ported,.gasket match
stock pistons,..340 windage tray..offy dual quad intake (x2) i think 625 cfm Carter AVS's---they're like baby Thermoquads---and a ATI 3,200 stall--4.10 gear..
and he drives this car daily--except for winter obviously---and oh ya--we run a Accel dual point distributor & Accel super coil--NGK V-power plugs,..no problems..just played with the springs & needles until we got a satisfactory result-these are for the fuel jetting & vacum determines amt. of spring tension needed...and the needles you can mod with 1000 grit wet paper...just do a little bit at a time..you can always remove a bit,.but cant put back if you Overdo
so i don't see why that wouldn't work for a B or R/B engine...and yes it runs on premium pump gas....good luck

Hey 66 - Thanks! ... Yup. 600cfm Holley 4160's. manual choke, vacuum secondaries. I also am running the Holley quick change kit for the secondary springs (it's not in the pictures) The kit has a provision for running a vacuum line between the secondaries so the they share the same vacuum signal and the opening is synchronized between the front and rear carbs.

As far as the filters, the velocity stacks just use a foam element that is sandwiched between two screens at the top of the stack. I may try to retrofit them with a better filter element down the road, but that's a ways off when the car is actually finished...

I don't know anything about that seller, but for that price you are within maybe 10- 20 bucks from a new pair.. and those in the picture are missing the choke.
 
Really Bbodee? up here in Canada I am likely shelling out 7-800+ clams for a new set...Time for a trip across the border! The pic's are just an example, he says he would include manual choke and a choice of colour for the powder coating. I just checked Summit's site and see they have reman'd Holley's for 259.00 each... The powder coating looks nice on the latter set!
