Ok so after much time and debate I decided to go with a 5.2l out of a 2002 durango, I got the transmission with it as well (which I would like to use hopefully) it is an auto trans, what all do I need to get to make this happen in my '72 charger? Any places where I could get a stand alone ecu or harness would be appreciated. Thanks everyone

Are you doing a 318 cu.inch 5.2, or did you mean 5.7 345 cu. inch swap?

Well my car originally came with a 318 so I kinda like the idea of just "updating" it

Well then I believe the saying "to each their own" applies haha

Hotwireauto can help with a harness.

Are you sure it's a 5.2? That engine was supposed to be gone before the 2000 came out but they continued it for a very short while....but I'm pretty sure it was gone by the end of the year. Allpar says it was gone in 2002 with the 360 filling in until the new Hemi came into being. The 4.7 took the place of the 318 and was available in 2000 in the Durango.

Well, if it is infact, the 5.2 you could make it work if you have all the stuff, you mentioned that you got the engine + transmission. If you also have the wiring harness + computer you could drop the engine straight in no problem. Them transmissions are a lot bigger than your usual 727, some floor pan mods are going to be needed. The older A500/A518 only need some minor case mods to fit in. You will also need to figure out a new way to mount the transmission in the back, different crossmember lengths.

If you're seeking more than stock performance then using factory computer fuel injection isn't what you want, just becomes a nuisance after that.

Idea: You could get the fast XFI kit for a small block chrysler, which will allow for upgrades in the engine. Then get a A500/518 transmission, read the article on it for setting up overdrive and you could use that. The reason for the older transmission is because it is not a fully electronic shifted transmission, it requires no computer to control it.

Or you could go carbureted but what fun is that? Lol.
