I replaced my single resevoir m/c with a dual m/c for safety. I've bled the system countless times but I still get a soft pedal. Bled rr,lr,rf,lf. Wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, lines, distribution block all new. Using a cardone 10-1323m m/c.Why don't I get a good firm pedal. Please help!!!!!

Did you bench bleed the MC and does the pedal sink if you hold pressure against it?

Sounds like a bad m/c bypassing internally--just my .02

Usually:

Soft pedal = air in lines, shoes out of adjustment

Pedal going to floor = hydraulic leakage

Hydraulic leakage could be internal in the master cylinder as fluid passes around the piston seal. Also check for external leaks front to back...lines, connection points, wheel cylinders, calipers (if you have discs), under dash where the input rod enters the back of master, etc.

Adjust brakes by turning adjuster until the wheel is hard to turn then back off about 1/4 to 1/2 turn (3-4 clicks with manual adjusters). With auto adjusters you will have to get a piece of coat hanger to push the adjusting arm away from the star wheel in order to rotate it backwards.

Hope this helps!

Did you also do a disc brake swap at the same time?, if so the calipers could be swapped left to right....the bleeder screws should be on top, you'd never be able to bleed them...unless you flipped the car upside down!!

I've seen this happen several times in the last 10 years.

Exactly what happened with my car.
